I'm not completely on this diet? I saw my doctor yesterday and he said because I'd been fiddling around with my diet so much (I'd changed it a few times before starting Heather's diet) that I was suffering from malnutrician (not badly but enough that I'll suffer health problems soon) and that I needed to be eating a bit differently. I'm still following the soluble fibre basis but adding some red (really lean) meat and low fat dairy. I hoping it will still be okay to chat to you all in the living room? You understand what it feels like to have this and I think I'd miss you all too much if I didn't! I'm also on some meds to control my symptoms so I'm hoping I'll start to feel a bit better soon. He also put me on anti depressants which will help with the d and help me cope with the way I've been feeling lately. Thanks all so much for your support. I can't even begin to tell you what it means to me

Amy,

You can still chat with us if you change your diet. We all have different ones. I'm vegan (no dairy and no meat) and Heather's book doesn't advocate that. Do what you feel is best for you!

Good luck!

Amy,
I'm so glad you went to your doctor. You do whatever you need to do to get well. A few years ago, I suffered malnutrition from having pneumonia. I had to be put on a liquid nutritional supplement made from milk. But, it sure did bring me back to life again. I think they make a nutritional supplement that isn't made from milk also. Maybe something like that would also be beneficial to you. It sure saved me. I'm also glad you're on an antidepressant and I hope it helps. I want you to feel better soon, so take care of yourself. By the way, you'd better not stop coming to the living room. I'd miss you!

Of course! I can totally sympathize, my tummy got so bad I practically started starving myself (only eating sourdough bread and boiled chicken!) and I got very malnourished. I eventually ended up in the hospital where they made me change my diet...so now I eat low-fat dairy (with lactaid pills) nd some other stuff I wouldn't have before. You have to see what works best for you!

Just out of curiousity, why red meat? Did they say? I refuse to eat red meat (moral reasons) and even in the hospital they said as long as I ate adequate chicken/turkey/fish I wouldn't need it.

We don't judge, you need to do whatever makes you better, both nutrition and IBS wise.
I cheat a bit (a lot recently) and there are certain things that bring on my symptoms, so if something your dr recommends gives you D then discuss it with him. Red meat gives me D usually and dairy (like the white chocolate cheesecake I ate for dessert ) gives me stinky gas. I think you should still try to not eat dairy or red meat on an empty stomach and at least you will be protecting your colon from that shock!

Good luck and keep posting to let us know how you get on

No problem! I do red meat too since it's never been a trigger for me. It's a staple of my diet really! So I have no argument against still being your friend!!

I'm a big advocate of "Whatever Works!!!"
