Good news!

We have this reward programme at work where staff from the whole organisation nominate a colleague to win a "recognition award" for excellent service, being dependable and engaging and generally representing all that is good about our company. I have been nominated twice before but didn't win the award for our department- well this quarter I WON!

I got a voucher for €200 ($265!) that can be spent at hundreds of shops all around the country. I am thinking of getting some jewellery- something I would never have bought for myself otherwise, rather than the suits for work that i need!

Needless to say I was delighted, and am going shopping Saturday with my Mum and sisters so can get them to help me choose, Was thinking of getting a necklet and asking for the matching earrings for Christmas....waht do you guys think?

I think that's a fabulous idea. And congratulations! It's always good to be recognized for a job well done... it's even better to actually get something for it. Tee hee! Have fun shopping!!

Yay!! Congratulations Sinead!! I'm sure you completely deserve it - you seem like you're the go-to gal at your work You should definately be proud of yourself!

Hmm ... I think jewelry definately sounds like a plan! If you've got a pretty necklace, who cares if your suit isn't quite up-to-date, right?? tee-hee! Have a great time shopping

That's excellent! I totally think you should spend it on stuff you _want_ rather than stuff you _need_ - that's what a prize should be for!
Let us know all the pretty stuff you buy!

Hi Sinead!

I don't know you, but I know about sudden windfalls like you just had. I've had a few in my lifetime, and two of them stand out in my memory. In both instances, I "blew" the money on something I had been wanting AND NEEDING a long time. The first time was in 1969; it was a Christmas bonus from the first company I worked for. I "splurged" on a washing machine that my husband refused to buy me. That washer lasted me 33 years. The second time I had a windfall, I splurged and bought myself a car. At the time, I needed a car; I didn't have one. Do you know, to this day, I still have that car -- and it's only got 17,000 miles on it! It'll last me the rest of my life.

I'm doing a poor job of telling you to get something REAL special for yourself, something you would never otherwise buy, because it'll always be a constant reminder of a very lucky time in your life. Whatever you do, don't spend it on anything practical, like paying bills or groceries. This is a one-time shot.

That "necklet" (necklace I assume?) and matching earrings sound fabulous! Goferit, Girlfriend!

Bev
