Hi friends!
Was wondering the best way to clean an iron? I am bad and don't use distilled water in it and now it has a lot of gunk in it and not working as well? I know you can use vinegar in a coffee maker, but in an iron? I am worried about the smell. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I just had to Google this, because just this morning I was using the iron and swearing because it got GUNK all over my sewing project. Anyway, this is what I found: web page. I haven't tried any of this, but I'm gonna!

mom trick if its non nonstick was to use steel wool, if it didn't come off easy- warm it up and use a junky potholder or folded towel to hold the steel wool.. the gunk will melt and come off that way!

Good luck!

You think you're bad for not using distilled water? I think you're amazing for using the iron in the first place!

One day I'm going to make someone an awful wife!

That depends on what the water container is made of, if it is plastic then use vinegar, otherwise if it is stainless then use a dilute carboxylic acid solution.

I am a bad wife because I make my husband iron his own clothes! I hate ironing and I told him when we first got married that I would never do it! Of course my MIL thinks that's unimaginable but I didn't get married back in the old days as she puts it. Plus I work full time also!
