There was a crash in the metro which happened earlier this afternoon. But it's on my route home, so it looks like another late night in the office for me.
Scary, cos it's a station I go through and the train I take to get home.
I called my bf to get me a ride and he read the story in the washington post online ( story ) while he was talking to me. It's like impossible to get a cab, cos everybody's going out of the city now.
It'd be OK, but the candy I ate earlier (stoopid Nelly) is giving me a stomachache along with the stress of being stranded here.
Sux.

Hey Nell Didn't realize you were so close by! Do you live up in Maryland? Lots of people in my office will have trouble getting home today too. I usualy go into Union Station, but I plan to take the walk down to Galarie Place - about a mile - but that way I can get straight on the yellow line down to VA, but just FYI - I've heard they still expect to be single tracking the trains tomorrow morning. Good luck on getting home - I was just glad to hear that no one had died in the accident - it looked pretty scarry.

Yep, I'm at Farragut North right now, and my home is end of the line, Shady Grove. Can you imagine if they had that crash during rush hour?? They have a shuttle (Hah!) running from Dupont to Cleveland Park, but that's what, the size of maybe one subway car?
The red line is packed at this time. And if they're still dealing with the passengers from the afternoon, it'll be standing room only on the platform.
I'm working on another solution, possibly involving dinner in the city, but I have to wait for my tummy to calm down first.

i read that they are actually single tracking trains through the Dupont - Vanness section right now, but I'm sure the platforms are jammed! If you do go for dinner in the city, at least you're in a nice part of town to look for a restaraunt! Maybe tomorrow we can tele-port ourselves to work - I doubt if they will keep the other four lines free of delays with red so jammed up! Hope you find a good dinner buddy and I hope your tummy calms down - don't get stressed about this, it's just a day in the city and we should be relieved that no one was seriously hurt and they will get it fixed sooner or later! Get home soon. Min

Ug. Thanks for the info, Min. I appreciate it. I guess we are pretty close! I'm going to start saving now for a teleportation system, so by the time they make one, I can afford it.
Guess I used up all my good karma voting so quickly yesterday. Today and tomorrow's commute is going to be freakishly hellish.

Thanks Brittany. It's weird it happened when the city is at such a high state of alert (cos of the elections). I'm reading that people scrambled out of there really quickly because they thought it was a terrorist attack. No fatalities, just 4 hurt. Amazing.

Wow! Just knowing that I could have been on that train would have shaken me up. I'm so glad you are safe!!!

Thx, RT. I'm going to try and cab it to a *safe* station now (rolling eyes). Wish me luck!

Well I finally got home at 9pm, but I got to split a cab with a very nice gentleman and we had a laugh about the situation. I cabbed it to another station up the line, and trained home from there. The trains were deserted by then, as most had opted for fallback ways home.
I told a conductor I was impressed with the professionalism the metro employees were displaying, and really meant it. Gotta get some of that commuter karma back!!
