My foot is killing me!!! I keep it up as much as possible. When I have to be at work its up on a chair with a pillow in it. But just having to move around, go potty and stuff, makes it swell up so big I think the cast is going to burst!! I have tried taking mortin in the past and it sends me into an ibs attack that lasts well after I stop taking it. I have tried a rx called baxtra which is supposed to be one of the newer, more gentlier nsaids drugs but same thing. The dr switched me from vicodin to darvocet trying to avoid getting addicted. If I could keep it from sweeling so much I think I wouldn't need so many pain pills. Anyone have any idea's on what to try?? I do put ice on it over the cast 3-4 times a day and when I'm home, I'm flat on my back with lots of pillows so its above my hart. I had to "sponge off" and wash my hair this morning, than the 30 minute drive to work and its killing me. I'm tring to make it another 30 minutes in the office before I close up and go home for today.

... It never reaches your tummy, so it shouldn't cause an attack! And you can use that and use paracetamol or codeine based painkillers as well!

If you possibly, possibly can, take some time from work and stay off your foot. It's really important in the first few days.
Keeping it elevated is excellent. The cast is going to prevent any real cold from getting to the injury, so you might think about loosening it (if it is the removable kind-- it doesn't sound like it is, tho).
An anti-inflamatory is what you have to take to get the swelling down. Take immodium advanced with your ibruprofen, but don't take motrin, cos it's too much. Take an advil, at least 1 of them, if you can tolerate it with the imodium.
Lie down and get lots of sleep.

[OK, this is not my advice, but this is what I've done in the past. I knock myself out with tylenol PM, or Nyquil, or vicodin, percocet, xanax, valium or anything I can get my hands on. I don't leave bed for 3 days except to go potty. I always overdo it otherwise, and I don't heal. I'm accident prone and have developed this, the "Nelly Method" after again and again trying to accomplish too much when I'm hurt, and breaking the same thing over and over as a result. I had 4 bad sprains in 5 years (try crutches on ice!!) before I realized this was the only way to shut down and heal. I can't recommend it of course, I'm just saying THIS WORKS FOR ME VERY WELL.]

Never knew there was an ibuprofen gel before, good to know!! Unfortunately, it won't help too much because the area that needs it is covered with a cast It was one week ago Wednesday that I fell and I just can't believe how much the darned thing still hurts!! I stayed in bed for 5 days straight but have to put in some time at the office now. I do take Darvocet during the day and I'm up to TWO Xanax at night so I can sleep. I would take the mortin if all it did was give me D but it causes severe pain and bloating that lasts even after I stop taking it I had a bad casue of tendonitis a couple of years ago and ran into this same problem!!
I just hate being so helpless!! Its all I can do to go pee and get dressed by myself!! In fact, I'm embarrassed to admitt, I had to call a maid service to come out and clean my house this weekend!! My hubby is too busy so I gave him the decision, make time to clean or pay for a maid, he told me to call a maid! I feel bad about someone else seeing my house so messy, but what can I do?? I love my hubby dearly. He started his own business a year ago and is insanely busy so I hate making him take care of me. I asked him to pick up something for dinner last night. He brought home Boston Market, MEATLOAF of all things??!!!!! What was he thinking?? He brings me a plate of food for dinner that I know my tummy isn't going to like but I was hungry and couldn't get up and fix myself anything else so I ate it. Whats the worst that could happen right?? WRONG!! I am a C person and with taking the narcotics for the pain right now I've really been a bit backed up but not today. Oh Boy!! Ever seen someone with a broken foot, in a cast, on crouches, hobbling as fast as possible with their butt checks clenched so they don't crap thier pants on the way to the potty??? NOT a pretty sight!! Luckily, its just D and some cramps, I don't think its going to amount to a full blown attack which can last days or weeks for me. I wonder if the maid service will got to the grocery store for me?? LOL!!

I hope that wasn't too much of a visual for you!! I guess I should have put a warning first! HEHE!! I just can't believe with all the narcotics I'm taking for my foot, not to mention very little physical activity, that I would have D!!! I have been C for 34 years!! LOL!! I'm just hoping I don't have any more of the "I gotta go NOW" because I'm just too beat up right now to move that fast!!

I'm hoping I'll be able to put some weight on it in the next couple of weeks. These darned crutches are killing me!!

get better soon.. and meanwhile- if you need something, I am sure we can come up with a way to get it to you.. maybe when DH has to be out of the house Sunday I'll send him to your place with safe groceries... I don't know- his dad is leaving sometime this weekend for the winter, so he may just go see him if he hasn't left yet then.
