I took advantage of the early voting here in Texas so it went pretty smoothly. Although I liked it better when we lived in Washington state where you had the option to vote by mail(no lines!!).

DH spent 2 hours at 7:15 and they aren't predicting it getting better in our area... so I am going after work.. they have early voting but lines that long don't help when I have to be here for a time clock at 8:30.. I'll go after work, knitting in hand... my BIL spent more then 2 hours in line too...

I already voted here in Queens, NYC. I was the fifth person on line at 6am. It took all of 10 minutes including waiting for the people ahead of me.

I couldn't (obviously!) but have a definite preferred result! Did you guys hear about Pierce Brosnan becoming an American citizen so he could vote?

I sent in my absentee ballot (since I'm orginally from Virginia and never changed my voting registration since coming to college) a few weeks ago.

...but I actually did it 2 weeks ago, because Maine is a WONDERFUL state and they allow you to fill out absentee ballots without a reason! Adam and I had to go re-register, since we just moved, so we just went ahead and voted that day.

I did hear that... it bothers me somewhat... but then again what do I know I was raised to be extremelyt politically active and went around registring people to vote for months this year..

All due respect to Mr. Brosnan, Mr. Springsteen, Curt Schilling, Eminem, Bruce Willis, Wayne Newton and any other celebrity/athlete no matter who they support; I could care less about what they think about politics.
I think voters should educate themselves about the issues and not rely on everything a celebrity tells them or a media outlet tells them.
Thats just my two cents.

I agree 100%. I hate hearing their 'side' and influence. People need to vote for who they think is the right candidate.

Even on this side of the pond! Your governments foreign and environmental policies impact on the UK so much!
I guess we shouldn't start a political debate here, but I can at least say that Si and I are rooting for different candidates!!!

Not sure if I'm going to have time to vote today. I had a doctors appointment this morning that took up my lunch and I have a 1pm meeting that will last until 4pm. Then I have school at 4:30pm until 8:20pm (polls close at 8pm).

and becoming a citizen to support a candidate is a huge turn off to me.. but I vote the way I was raised- on the issues!

Hey, ladies...
-just diverted a call from my sis. She has the gall to try and tell me who to vote for... -handed the phone over to my Mom in her mid tirade. Hey, it was good for a laugh. She hasn't grown out of her "college girl" mentality. Kinda cute, actually.
I will let you in on my strategy this time as you are like family... Will only vote on the issues that affect California...health issues, police & public services, Indian gaming & the like.
Yes, I support my party and put my money where my mouth is; but if I voted for Bush and we have another 9-11, the guilt I feel would be unbearable. Hey, I can live with this...
It's really all about the ideologies of the political parties and ultimately the American people.
Peace, Love & may the best man win!!! Salaam, to my Middle Eastern friends...

man- hope I'm as lucky as you are Heather- but there are some major local issues... and also we're in the A2 area so a lot of people stepping out for proposal 2 who might otherwise not even have shown for a presidential election.. I was amazed at the # who turned out for some of the prayer services and rally's I attended! then again- a law that would take away benefits people already have is stupid in my book... even if I wasn't pro GLBT rights I'd be against proposal 2!

We voted in the Boston area. My husband had a line this morning but I think it was the morning rush hour. I went in with my 13 year old after school. (no line then) She is VERY interested. She watched the debates and followed the press coverage in the paper. She wanted to vote. I took her with me to at least see the process in action.
I think the polls should be open later then 8 p.m. that might help with the lines. Thats got to be a huge turn off for some people.
Take Care!

I've been hearing about long lines all over the place - I guess everyone finally got motivated ...

The Brosnan thing made the news here because he is Irish and being viewed as a traitor..or would be if he had done so to vote FOR Bush! There was unbelievable security when Bush came to visit here in June, they were so scared that there would be a a big antiwar March that they kept him within 10 miles of Shannon airport on the west coast and closed all the roads around!
I am against celebrities endorsing candidates and I think that there is more to citizenship than voting "against" someone. I would never surrender my Irish passport either...but I guess Hollywood changes people and they believe that them doing something that they consider symbolic will in some way make a difference..but really all it does is get them column inches.
OK, someone stop me talking politics!
I am on CNN.com looking at the results but its 1am here so i need to go to bed! (i have a problem, i admit it)

I went at 8 am with my little guy and we were out by 8:30am. I live in an area with only two precincts. But it was starting to get packed.

I did and it didn't take long even though I had to register to vote. The last Presidential election we lived in Texas and I didn't get to vote. Texas requires you to register two months before an election and I didn't. I thought every state was like WI - you can register at the polls.

So I voted last night, then as it was only 4pm and I had the rest of the day off, I thought HEY! Free afternoon! And I went to a bar and poolhall by where I live, and ordered a yummy steak. There was a very drunk, burly man next to me at the bar, with stuffed animals in front of him, which he said he'd won in one of those automatic crane machines. He offered me a stuffed mouse in a ballerina outfit, and asked me how my steak was. He told me he was a meat cutter who worked in a supermarket across the street. Then he told me about how many steaks there were, depending on the cut of meat you chose, and at one point diagrammed how he would cut up a cow, using my body for reference. These are the ribeyes, he'd say, and poke my back. The neck is the tenderest, he'd add, and touch my neck. The shanks, tenderloin, and so on. This is a guy who knows how to get rid of a body, I thought. We talked animatedly about the election for a couple of hours, then I went home. Got home at my "usual" hour too, and had a funny story to tell!
~nelly~ I vote, I eat steak.

This was my first time voting in Memphis. I have to say it was a pleasure. (We moved from NY last year.) There was no lines and every one at the polls were very helpful. Two young men standing outside the fire station were personaly thanking everyone for voting. I spoke to a friend of mine in NY last night and I wish I could say the experiance was as pleasant for her.. but let's just say, I'm glad we moved. Woops! Does that sound like I'm gloating?
