How do you all deal with an employer that is less than understanding? I always had a great relationship with her until I became sick, and now she has turned into 'witchy' woman. I called her to wish her a happy boss's day, and she told me she now has another employee going out on medical disability and she really needs me back ASAP. I feel like she is adding more stress to an already stressful situation for me. I really want to get back to work, but I want to get better first. My doctor wants me off another 4 weeks, or until we can get the abd pain controlled.

What would you do?

I agree with Heather. Stay under the radar -- don't contact your boss unless you absolutely have to.

Be pleasant, but be firm. You must follow your doctor's orders. You can be sympathetic that she is in a bind, but don't take responsibility for it.

You'll have to pardon me, but I'm a construction worker...

This is what I'd do:

1. Follow the advice of your doctor. 2. Find another job (and start in accordance to your doc's advice). 3. Go to amazon.com & get a copy of the song "take this job and shove it!". 4. Give your boss two weeks notice. 5. On your last day...play your new CD on your car stereo as you are leaving the parking lot.

Nobody needs "witchy" bosses in their lives. The stress just ain't worth it

Your boss is trying to make her problem yours. You are out sick and you should not have to feel guilty about that. The office will survive and your boss will find a way to make things work. You have to take care of yourself and cannot rush back to work at the expense of your health. I agree with Heather too, just don't call your boss and that way you won't have to worry about what is going and she doesn't have a chance to make you feel guilty. It sounds like she is taking out her stress on you which is not the right thing to do.

Hi Jana,

As one who has worked for over 40 years, I can say from experience that it's business, nothing more. The employer is looking out for herself (and possibly the business), not you. She could care less about your health; her concern is running the business smoothly. That's the way it works.

You need to look out for YOU. Your health comes before anything. If your employer is having problems with staffing, she can call a temporary agency. That's the way it works.

DO NOT allow anyone to pressure you or put more stress on you than you already put on yourself. It's bad enough that we have to fend for ourselves with this damn IBS crap -- a condition that has no cure and no one knows how to help us -- we certainly don't need others who know nothing about our condition and are unsympathetic to our plight to add more pressure on us.

Your doctor wants you off another 4 weeks? Then it's 4 weeks off for you, Girl! And if your employer has a problem with that, she can contact your doctor. That's the way THAT works!

{{{{Hugs}}}}

Bev
