This is my 1st time posting on any of the message boards, though I visit this site frequently. I have chronic diarrhea predominate IBS with a lot of pain. I am on Lotronex and Paxil for my symptoms. I want to get pregnant this year, and a healthy pregnancy and baby are very important to me. I have tried going off of these medicines before with no success. I have an appointment with my ob/gyn this month, but I was wondering if anyone who has gone through this scenerio had some advice about pregnancy and IBS. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

This is my 1st time posting on any of the message boards. I have IBS w/constipation and recently found out I am pregant which i am estatic about. But the first thought that came to my mind is i heard all of my friends talk about how constipated they would get I already get like that unless i control it through my diet which i do every day (sometimes i have attacks, not nearly as many before finding this website) but did not want the added issue now that i am pregnant, i'm very concerned about my IBS, If there is anyone who has already been through this, i would appreciat Any comments or advice! Thank you

my situation is a little different than you I have ulcerative proctitis and while i was pregnant i was pretty much symptom free. I was hoping maybe with all the crazy changes my body went through it miraculously would have disappeared but my symptoms came back after i had a healthy baby boy. i didnt take any meds while pregnant i just watched what i ate. I had a great pregnancy and wish u the best with your journey.

I was on paxil 2 different times for Anxiety and panic disorder. First time.. When it came time to get off the drug & I started to wean off I found out BINGO I was pregnant. It was a SURPRISE PREGNANCY. So worried about the risk of harming the baby I figured I was already weaning off & only down to a small small amount so at that point I could just go ahead and stop taking it. I thought I had the worst morning sickness of my life. I had 2 prior pregnancy with no morning sickness like this time. It lasted a full 12-14 weeks I was miserable. Horredus non stop nausea, dizzyness, brain shocks migranes whole body ills.. Just terrible..
Again at this point I just thought it was morning sickness since I was down to literally a sliver of the pill when I stopped taking it.

Second time I weaned off and experienced the worst brain shocks, and illness, bad mood swings, screaming, crying skin crawling & took forever to get off, But I did finally conquer.
I now know that the first time it was NOT morning sickness but EXTREME Drug withdrawal.

My advice is to start weaning now It will take months and you will have to taper very very slowly, then go to every other day etc... Talk to your doctor about how to do it. I still followed there guidelines but it is still really hard. I promised myself never to choose Paxil again. I since have been on Lexapro and that was easier to deal with still some effects but nothing like Paxil. I am off the Lexapro now and I m on 2 different drugs so No more SSRI for me.

Please be careful as Paxil is a EVIL drug in my opinion and you can read countless stories on the net about it too. I do wish you the best of luck in getting of fthe drug and getting on to a safe and health pregnancy. I don't mean to scare you but PLEASE do it very very carefully feel free to Contact me if you need any help or have questions I have been there. Take care..
