Hello all. I'm a newbie to the website, message board and IBS diagnosis.
I have a question for the ladies - before I knew to stay 10 miles away from anything dairy I would have terrible pains and literally thought I might die. I'm 26 years old and married 3 years and pregnancy is on the horizon. I'm terrified of labor pains because any woman I've talked to about giving birth has told me that "you've never experienced any pain like labor pain." I cannot IMAGINE labor pains being worse than the gut wrenching pains I experienced with D. I'd like to give natural birth if possible, but am just wondering if I'll have to surrender to the epideral (sp?).
IBS moms - are the pains similar??

I haven't had kids, but a good friend told me that when she gave birth, it certainly wasn't easy, but the labor pains really were like the IBS cramping pains... sometimes I worry I'm a wuss with pain b/c the cramps get so bad I either throw up or almost pass out... But, my friend did say having IBS her whole life certainly prepared her for childbirth. lucky us...haha

I have had two children and believe me my IBS pains have been every bit as bad as labor if not worse at times. If you have dealt with that you are plenty prepared for labor. By the way - I DID end up with a spinal eventually because I ended up having a c-section (after 8 hours because of complications related to size), however during the 8 hours and then later with my second I discovered that the pains were much more manageable when I could walk around.
