Way to go re: exploring other foods.

I usually just do my zucchini fries the same way one would do
safe fries (either sweet potato or potatoe-based), i.e. cut/season/lay on a Pam-sprayed cookie sheet/& give it a quick
all-over spray so it gets "crispy" and golden. Sometimes I'll sprinkle on some rice cheese. There's a recipe on the exchange index you can adapt to suit your needs.

Sometimes, I shred/grate zucchini and eat it that way (this is done at the speed of light by my food processor)--it looks like a "slaw" or grated cheese/stuff you'd use for muffins or a loaf. I like it either baked in the oven or in the microwave. It has the texture of hashbrowns.

Mushrooms are neat if you food process them first. Definite recipe potential, but I'm a lazy single woman with no motivation or company 95 percent of the time.

I haven't been eating egg-whites because they make me feel ill, lately. I can't stand seeing/smelling them from the exit point and the feeling of rubber in me. Protein seems to stimulate my gi tract too much in an undesirable way, i.e. the gag reflex or explosive exit reflex.

Kate, IBS-D.

Thanks for the info on the Zucchini fries!! I would like to try them, but I don't have anything to season them with......

I don't think I'm going to eat egg whites today, either. I am going to wait until I can get some egg substitute. I think I would do better with that than the real egg whites. I don't know....I love eggs, though. I want another egg white omelette right now.....but, I have to eat soluble fiber first thing in the day or I will be messed up all day long!!

How are you feeling today??? I had an attack pretty bad last night, but this morning I'm okay. I had a doctor's appt but I cancelled it because it started upsetting my stomach. I have severe anxiety issues......after taking that Remeron.

michelle, have you tried hard-boiled eggs? (just eating the whites, of course.) they'd work with kate's theory of cold foods being easier on your refluxy system, and they're easier, i think, to incorporate into meals, especially later in the day. and it's easier to eat a smaller amount, too. (a one-half-white omelet wouldn't really work, but it's easy to eat just one half of an egg white.) just a thought.

hope you're feeling better soon. (i do the same mini-bagel-subsistence when i'm illin', too.)

HI Jamie!

Thank you! The mini bagels really help, don't they??? I think so. It's easier to just eat a bagel in the morning when my IBS-D is actin' up!!

I ate 2 hard boiled egg whites the day before yesterday and they seemed to be okay. Maybe you and Kate are right about the temperature thing. I'll try eating a couple today, and see what happens.

Thank you!
Michelle

SEA SALT!!! (hold the pepper, lol.)

Truly, it's that simple. Sometimes I'll add herbs. It depends on my mood.

Definitely make a huge difference re: reflux/nausea, for me--i.e. room temp. or COLDER.

Sometimes, when I have awful reflux or nausea, I suck ice cubes even!

Cold cereal works, but hot cereal=vomit! acid! reflux! Weird but that's my ultra safest food. Cold ultra-safe veggies are okay, but hot? Too warm? A very very bad idea.
Even tea must be room temp.

Kate.
