I hate restaurants! B- Cream of Rice, Almost milk, chopped raisins, small apple L- Soy yogurt with puffed millet went to see pride and prejudice and brought: S- Nectar Bar, GF pretzels Missed the bus, got stranded late this evening, had wicked low blood sugar so I went to a little place called freshside: Miso Soup, Satay Tofu w/rice..I ate the soup and about 1 cup of the rice and though it is some of the least greasy restaurant food out there (besides sushi) it got me HURTING..also eating while stressed, cold, stranded, and later than usual...ick
Calories? I have no idea....pre restaurant I was at 757..after a cup of miso and a cup of rice and tofu? I just feel gross and I am dreading two days of not being at home and having to deal with TWO holiday dinners (one tomorrow and one friday). Luckily my boyfriend's step mother knows how to bake gluten free but then his mothers' house the next night might be more complicated...they aren't familiar with it at all. How can you say.. um, I can't have gluten, egg yolks, dairy, meat, or oil...etc, etc. I am finally learning I have to politely but firmly draw those boundaries, but I feel so GUILTY!! and something always makes me sick, even if it's just not eating on my schedule. Sorry to rant!! And thanks for reading.

I hope you're feeling better tonight! The cold, stress, staying out too late - these all get me cramping up.
I know what you mean about drawing boundaries and explaining to family and friends about dietary needs. But it's not your fault - you're not being picky or difficult - and I'm sure your bf's family wouldn't want to do something that would make you feel bad. Don't stress too much and please don't feel guilty. At least one of your meals will be somewhat safe.
Are you IBS-D? If so, have you considered taking an Imodium in the morning as a preventive? Also, are you drinking any tea to help with the pain or attacks? You could take some with you - I'd recommend having a cup of peppermint or chamomile tea before the meals and after. Depending on how I'm feeling tomorrow morning, this is what I'm planning on doing. I'm also going to throw on one of those sticky heat patches to keep my abdomen warm all day.
I wish you the best! Good luck at both your holiday dinners.
(Oh, how'd you like the new version of Pride and Prejudice? )

Hey Guys,
*shredded oats with sliced banana and strawberries, soy coffee
*rice paper wrap with greens, cucumbers, shitake mushrooms, carrots, and edamame spread
*luna bar
*half turkey sandwich with tortilla chips and grapes
*two glasses red wine
Not too bad, but still not doing that well with cutting back on the alcohol...
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

--chai with rice dream (supremely brrrr....day here!)
--small banana (got a headache--I note that they give me headaches frequently, and heartburn)
--zucchini "fries" (note: it's nothing for me to eat four or 5 c. zucchini--measured prior to cooking; they do "shrink") --portabella mushrooms (it's also normal for me to eat 4 c. mushrooms, too, if I'm in the mood)
--green beans
--spinach puree/green sauce --cremini mushroom crumbles (added a cup of anise and 2 celery stalks) --eggplant chips (I'm starting to really like these as long as I peel them! Really funky texture!) ***made some purple mashed potatoes but was too full, so skipped them--the joy of leftovers***
--crispix (becoming my favourite, I think. also like rice crispies. i think i'm becoming more me, again, with the addition of cereal as i used to live on the stuff in University. totally miss fruit loops and corn pops, i confess! need something semi-trashy!)
Well, not a bad food day, but still less than 1000 calories. I just get too full/satisfied. Bought some angelfood cake mix for when I get inspired.
Kate, IBS-D.

Glad you're enjoying the Crispix. I find its crunchy texture really satisfying.
Ooh, I can't wait to hear what you do with the angelfood cake mix.
Stay warm!

I think I'll just eat cake, lol! Should I get some of that never-ending SOY DREAM that you're so fond of to top it off?
I used to love GREEN TEA SOY ICE CREAM!
You know what's weird? I feel more like the old me when I eat like this. Also, my IBS is better when I do. And my reflux. It's so weird, but the safe foods with IBS and reflux is getting smaller and smaller and all that stays down are a few select veggies and what most people would call junky carbs or crap.
But yes, Crispix...they rock. Will get some whackier cereals later on. It's so funny, but I know they'll stay down.
Kate.

those are some of the safest foods around. i think a lot of us on this diet have to adjust what we think of as bad/worthless/junky carbs - they're so easy on our systems, and when nothing else stays down/in, they often do. so they're not junk for us.
and angelfood cake is soooo good...
glad to hear you're feeling like yourself, kate. finding the things that make you feel that way is so great.

jaime, you're right!
my mother (& father, but less so--my grandmother loves it as her gut is nearly as bad as mine with reflux/ulcers. okay, i guess, my grandmother totally understands and adores my 'haute cuisine' as it's agreeable!) doesn't get it. she says hurtful/spiteful things. she looks in my fridge/cupboards & at my boney body (yes, retrograde's comparison to joan didion was eerie) and pale/ashen complexion and JUDGES! i know, countless books have been written about mothers/daughters and the food thing. bulimic mom/anorectic daughter. she doesn't get it that certain foods HURT me. she will never understand it, i fear. my standard response is MIND YOUR OWN PLATE! she flips when she sees what's in my grocery cart. do you have the same problem with your mother? my father, though, almost "gets it" which is a blessing. tehe...i hope someone kidnaps my grandmother and brings her over for dinner/lunch this weekend. i so miss SHARING dinner/lunch and eating bonding time with those i cherish. it's depressing eating alone.
it's a journey and it's not about weightloss...it's about a new understanding about food, the self, the body...what nourishes/sustains. you are so right about what is perceived/misunderstood as "trashy carbs" are the most nourishing/sustaing foods around. why? because they don't HURT me. because they don't make me vomit. they don't give me cramps or D. they give me the energy to laugh--yes, carbs sure energize those giggling muscles!--to experience pleasure, to write, to plan, to clean, to dream, to sleep at night, to co-ordinate my motor functions, to be grateful...
you can't do anything if what you're eating is making you sick. i'm worth more than that, so...i'll eat angelfood cake anyday! (my mother can eat brussels sprouts and meat/fish)
i like to think that this board is more about food journey/relationships too versus exclusively weightloss/fitness goals. i'm seeking nourishment, stability, food savvy/self-confidence. also, my goal is to eat less fiber and anything i want that is safe; i'm better at that each day. kitchen-nazi begone! does this sound semi-familiar?
Kate.
