Astrochick suggested that a poster do some higher intensity exercise to help her C. I tried the running thing, but, honestly, don't think my ankles and knees are going to be able to withstand the hard impact. Plus, I'm not too sure someone with Osteoporosis should be running.
However, the walking isn't cutting it for the BMs.
Any suggestions on high intensity exercises that aren't hard on the knees?

biking can be really intense, and if you have access to a gym, the elliptical machines are very low-impact, and you can go really hardcore on those, too.

This wouldn't have much of an impact on your knees. You might be able to find one at a used sporting goods store and then you could do it at home.

I was gonna recommed the elipycal trainer too! How about the yoga cardio workout (or whatever it's called?) Maybe dancing?
Let us know what you try Beth...I'm in the same spot you're in!
For now, I do weights, bike, dance, and stretches...

...do you think biking would help the C though? It seems like it would only work out my legs and not stimulate any other parts that need stimulating!
I wish I could afford to get to an elliptical training machine,,,but not in the budget. I need something that woud work in the winter too. I think it would be pretty difficult to ride a bike in the snow! Do you guys all have gym memberships? Is that a requirement for IBS-C?

I have some weights at home, just for my arms. And I have 2 hoola hoops (sp). And I have a bike and a bike trainer. I ride the bike trainer at home. I also do stretches including some of the ones recommended to you in the abdominal post. I cannot afford to buy anything or go to the gym either...so I just use what I have at home.
I also find moving around after a meal is crucial for me! I make sure to do dishes, walk around, clean something, etc. esp. after a big meal. This helps a LOT for my C and my bloating.
But if you don't have a way to bike in the winer...I would dance, hoola hoop, power yoga, stretch, march in place fast, and stuff like that. It DOES make a difference for my tummy AND my weight...
I hopeyou find what works for you for what you can afford soon *hugs* Love ya!
