How does running affect IBS? Is there a diffrence between wind sprints vs distance? I was part of the Civil Air Patrol pre-IBS and I'm back on the daily work out except for the running. Below is an average work out, every other day.

4 - 25 push-ups

4 - 35 sit-ups

3 - 7 pull-ups

3 mile run (one day 10 - 75m sprints)

7 mile bike or 1000m swim

All I can say is that OVER-exertion can trigger IBS, but of course that depends on how fit you are, what your IBS is like, etc, etc.

I just always think of the top marathon runners who get D every marathon! Why, oh why, do people do that to themselves?

Because there's nothing like proving to yourself that you can do it? And yeah- running triggers my IBS. Particularly because I live where it is very hot, and have to run early in the morning, which is a bad time for my IBS. Basically, the first mile or so I can be uncomfortable, and I make sure to run where there's a bathroom, but after that I'm fine. For a 3 mile stretch you should be ok, I would think.

I might try it. Then again swimming seems to be just fine. Easier on the knees too.
