Today was a weird day food wise...and not great for the IBS as we had a late BBQ lunch (it's my housemate's birthday tomorrow and today was a holiday here) and then didn't have dinner.
Total cals: 2262
BMR + Lifestyle - 500: 2214
So, so-so.

I have been away from the boards for a little while. I have been trying to follow "Eating for IBS" and it is very difficult when I start going over family's houses and eating out. I never realized how much dairy is in everything. I was feeling good for about a week or two (not perfect but better) and then all of a sudden I had another terrible bout. It seems for me when I travel or just go visit family from where I live NYC to CT I get C. It is so terrible. This past week I was C for 2 days then okay for 1 day then C for 2 days again. My stomach was killing me and so bloated I thought I was going to burst. It is so hard living like this. Sometimes I just don't know.

You must excuse my candour, but eating for IBS has made me exceptionally "anal" re: everything--food/liquid--that enters my body. Awareness of ingredients is crucial. Awareness of personal sensitivites/intolerances is vital for success. The mode of preparation, seasonings, source of the food (organic sits much better with me, and if affordable I urge you to eat organically), sometimes even the combinations can all make or break a good streak. Stress really negatively impacts IBS--it can make you C or give you D. The weather, I swear, even impacts me! Eating on a schedule really makes a difference: your gut gets accustomed to food at certain times and thus empties on a schedule (unloads?). Eating slowly makes a difference, in an unrushed completely digestible way does too. All I can say is follow the diet to the letter.

B: MOM 250 and 1g
all day food: 2 bananas 200, luna 180/4.5, french twist. 60/2, peach cup 80, licorice 66, toast 185/4g
Dinner: chicken curry (1/2 chicken breast), rice, snap peas and zucchini 350 cals/4g?
Dessert: strawberries, little bit mango, sorbet 250
total 1621/15.5 again it is 9%. How did I eat the same totals today? That is weird.
Exercise: weights, ball work, biked 14 miles (in 62 minutes yeah! ) and misc gardening and housework. Doing good!
I forgot I had 1 1/2 thin slices banana bread. add 150 and 1.5 grams or so.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Activity? Zero.
--1 c. puffed millet --1 c. puffed millet --puree of red swiss chard; --puree of asparagus --romaine lettuce, portabella mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts (reduced balamic vinegar, stevia) --6 soda crackers --3/4 cup mashed/whipped potatoes with dill, lemon --spinach puree --more romaine lettuce and alfalfa sprouts, etc.
That's all for now, folks. Later on? Something to the effect of rice cakes/crackers/saltines--or heck, even more puffed millet with sea salt!!!

I know. I guess when I go to visit family I just have to go shopping and try to follow the diet as close as possible. A lot of my IBS is from my nerves and I really need to work on that. I have a lot of anxiety and it really is terrible for my IBS and I think that's what creates the flare ups. Instead of fighting it I need to go with it and relax and think positive but sometimes it is really hard.
