I get to be first today!
Friday so far:
Breakfast - same Snack - part of an apple (it was yucky), UFO beverage, small slice sourdough bread. Lunch - Cup of vegetable rice soup with oyster crackers, chicken salad sandwich. Snack - baby carrots
I know my calories are OK so far, but I anticipate having a few high-calorie "adult beverages" this evening and probably something less than healthy for dinner. So I'm not reporting calories (for SHAME!!) but I'll be back on Monday with the rest of my weekend report! At least I am planning to get some excercise before I go out tonight!!
Have a good one everybody!

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

well I screwed up... knowingly...
started out ok- cheerios, rice milk, acacia cup of mashed taters and veggies for snack (insta food by osem- K for passover, safe and YUMMY- 210 cals) leftover pasta for lunch then I went to a late afternoon meeting (around the time I normally eat a luna bar) and they served pizza (which I was good about) and chicken wings! I had 7 wingy dingys... yummy... but I barely made it home from work an hour and a half later before the D kicked in! ah well...
since then- 1 adb muffin 1 turkey sandwich 1 small glass of low sodium v-8 2 slices choco choco chip banana bread I made our friend who came over to do something with Bill tonight...

I haven't had any problems with either one... but of course you know how individual tolerances are. I buy store brand "cool whip" and it does have dairy derivatives in it - you're allergic, aren't you? so that would be out for you. Crispix is just rice and corn flours, so as long as those two are ok for you, it should be fine. Again, I buy the store brand - I don't know if the "real" thing has HFCS, but the store brand doesn't.

Hee hee, just kidding! I am not back to reporting in all my food from the day, 'cause I still feel like when I try to count every calorie, I get a bit too stressed about my weight not changing so I am trying instead to focus on exercise, and as for food I am trying to cut back on sugar and just eat healthy, without all the counting right now.
So my exercise report for today!! Today was the first time my friend (my new work out buddy!) got together to work out.. We alternated between my elliptical and rowing machine, so I did both! Then we did my "10 minute solutions" (AWESOME Dvd) and we did the 'Buns' 'Abs' and 'Arms' section, so 30 minutes of weight lifting! Plus stretching. Dunno how many calories, but I feel good about what I got accomplished today! Tomorrow I am going to the gym with my mom. See ya'll later, have a kick-bum weekend! --Steph

9am: Banana Oatmeal
2pm: (Way too long between there!) Applesauce with cut up bananas
3pm: (Trying to get another meal in...) FF Turkey Hot dog wrapped in bread, with honey mustard
6pm: Baked Potato with soy margarine, veggie parmesan, salt and pepper Chicken with honey mustard
7pm: Jelly Beans
8pm: FF Saltines with tomato sauce and parmesean
9pm: A few ground up honey roasted casphew
9:15pm: (MAJOR MISTAKE) A handful of casphew, not ground up. Made myself so sick...I couldn't get to sleep, it was awful! Never again!
Total Just over 1,000 calories . But it was the impulse handful of nuts that put me over, and it was so not worth it. Awful, just awful. I was eating in the evening because I knew I needed more calories, but I just went about it all the wrong way. Need to spread them out over the day more. Must work on that.
Water--I lost count, but incredibly high. Quite possibly approaching 200 oz! And almost all tea. I swear, tea is the only thing that gets me through! The warmth in the belly really helps.
I'll try again today. Although it's already noon and I just woke up--still don't feel so well. It'll be hard to get the calories in today, but I'll focus on water, and spacing them out, I guess, instead of quantity.

Yeah... nuts do me in, too. I can only have them every now and then, and if they're not already nut butter, I have to chew them into oblivion.
Have you ever tried any of Heather's quick bread recipes? Her brown sugar banana bread is calorie-dense, and it's REALLY tasty, I have a hard time stopping at one piece... a much healthier snack (and easier to digest!) than a handful of nuts.
Hang in there, feel better, and do what you can. If nothing else, eat plain pasta and bread - both of those will be soothing on the belly. And you're right - stick with the hot tea too, it does wonders.

Yes...I've done alright with nut butters, or sending them through the grinder at least twice. But out of the can was quite a mistake!
I don't see that recipe in the index, but it sounds so good. I bought Heather's "First Year" book. They don't have the "Eating for IBS" book here, so I'm going to order it. I'm just waiting for someone to make up her mind about what Menopause book she wants so that we can get free shipping on the combined order. When I get it, I'll be sure to try that one! I just love banana bread (and zuchini bread, etc.) I haven't thought to check the recipe books I have to see if I could make those recipes safe. If it takes to long for the book to get here, I might try one of those in the meantime.
Oh! I just found out that our HFS here carries Teeccino products! I'm not sure which ones yet, but I think I'll go this afternoon and find out! Yea!

They're on the site, which is tricky... they don't show up in the index. Brown Sugar Banana Bread and Sweet Cinnamon Zucchini Bread - both of those are from Eating for IBS. When you do get the book, I can personally attest that the Chocolate Applesauce Bread is to die for. I blame that for putting my 20lbs back on! LOL
Good luck with the Teeccino! If you find it and decide to try it, don't follow the brewing instructions on the can. I find that I use 2 heaping spoonfuls for 8-10 cups of water in the coffeepot.
By the way, I meant to ask, what are you using for your calorie calculations? Do you measure out servings? I'm just curious. I'm wondering if you're secretly getting more calories than you think you are. It's really easy to do that, especially if you "eyeball" your portion sizes. For example, a "serving" of chicken breast, as per most calorie counters, is 4oz... but the average skinless boneless chicken breast half is 8-10oz, which would mean that someone who's counting calories and not taking that into account is getting twice as many as they thought. Just something that crossed my mind.

Thank you! Yep, I certainly missed them.
I measure out servings religiously, all except things measured in oz because I don't have a food scale. I think I'm fairly accurate because most things I either out of a package (bread, oatmeal, etc) or I cook them and add up the calories then cut the whole pan and divide (ADB, RKT, etc.). I've done that on both those recipes and with the ingredients I use, the calories have come up slightly different. The only things that I am probably not as accurate on is chicken, baken potatos, and shredded "veggie cheese". The last one really isn't an issue, as I have one bag of it that I've been using the last 3 weeks. So it's probably inconsequencal. With chicken, I probably eat about usually eat only about 5 or 6 bites. (Bite as in what you would put of on a fork, maybe an inch, by half an inch, by half an inch--or less). After that, it just has almost no appeal, no matter how much I was enjoying the first bite. (Yikes...considering, that may not even be a whole serving...didn't there used to be some rule about 4 oz being the size of a deck of cards?...I'm not sure I eat that much.) And the potatos I've really just been guessing on. For instance, the one I ate last night I ate all of, but really, it was a rather pathetic potato, even by my standard. Maybe 3 inches long, and not particularly fat. (It was a regular potato, not one of the round red ones.) So I really have just been guessing on that part. Are there any good rules for eyeballing? Or is a good food scale just a necessity?

Actually, the deck of cards estimate is about right for meats. That's the hardest one to keep track of accurately anyway, so if you remember that, you're in pretty good shape.
Potatoes are harder to guess on. I've been going by the calorie counts on Nutrawatch, which are notoriously inaccurate sometimes, but I figure they're close enough for my purposes. On there, they say that a 4 1/2" long by 2 3/4" wide potato is 145 calories, and 1/2 cup of finely chopped or coarsely mashed potato is 57 calories.
I don't own a food scale. I have an old postage scale that I use now and then to see approximately how much frozen meat I'm throwing into a recipe, but for the most part, I've measured out servings (and baking ingredients, etc) long enough that I can just eyeball it pretty easily.
I hope you know I wasn't questioning your counting or measuring or anything... I was just grabbing at any idea that came to me that maybe you were getting more calories than you thought you were getting. But that's fine - like I've said all along, don't stress it, you'll get there. Just increase a little at a time, and your body will hardly know you're doing it... and you know, even I still have days where I don't feel like eating, so I don't, it's really ok.

Thanks so much...I really appreciate all the time you are spending to help me. (and for the record, I was really hoping you were right on this one... ). Hmmm...I wonder what my family would think if I cut a deck of card shaped middle out of all the breasts, and then left the edges for them to eat?? Hehe. Then at least I would know how many meals it took me to eat it up, lol.
Oh, and I ordered the teeccino sampler pack yesterday (and Heather's book, and Acacia). Do you order your teeccino off the website? If so, how long does generaly take to arrive?
