I've been dying to find this out for ages. I can't believe I forgot to ask. Anyhow, can anyone eat jam on their toast? If so, what kind? I have found that I definitely cannot eat strawberry jam. Is it the fruit, the sugar, the seeds, who knows?

I can't eat jam either... I've heard of people having problems with strawberries in general, so maybe it's the seeds, but *my* problem is that I can't have sugar in any kind of quantity. That's not a normal IBS problem, though.

I can do tiny bits. A teaspoon in a cup of tea doesn't bother me. Candy that isn't overly sweet, like real licorice, is ok too. But all of Heather's cakes, puddings, desserts - all out. Phooey to that, I say!

I eat Bonne Maman Wild Blueberry Jam with no problem. You may be allergic to strawberries. I can't eat peach preserves for that reason.

Hi, I'm not allergic as I make strawberry smoothies almost every day. Isn't that strange? Hmmm...

Hey, at least you can have some good things. Licorice rocks.

I've found that I have a major problem with high fructose corn syrup which is unfortunately in a lot of packaged foods. However, Smuckers now has some sugar free jams which have Splenda in them and no high fructose ... Avoiding high fructose ... means I have to read labels on foods I thought were safe before. Tends to limit me to cooking more at home.
Hope this helps.

since jam usually has solids, seeds, etc. it also gives me problems. jelly might be a better choice. good ol' grape jelly is a staple at my place ... and i've heard that fruit pectin is good for your tummy. (??) good luck!

Try smuckers seedless blackberry preserves. That's the only one I've found I can tolerate.

Ok, I bought a seedless rasberry jam (e.D. Smith brand) but it had corn syrup in it? Is that a big no-no? It's not high fructose corn syrup, I know that one is bad.
I couldn't find any of the suggested ones in the grocery store today.

Sara-Sage:
I can't have jam because of the additives and HFC. I also can't have sugar or artificial sweeteners.
For the past 12 years I've used babyfood fruit sauces as a delightful, IBS-safe alternative. I buy babyfood jars (usually Heinz in Canada or Gerber if I'm in the U.S.) of pear sauce, apple-blueberry, apple-strawberry or apple only, etc. It is all cooked and pureed so there are no seeds, etc. The sauce contains only the fruit -- no HFC or additives (although Heinz has recently added a tiny quantity of Ascorbic Acid to its recipe, but organic babyfood brands still don't contain anything but the fruit).
I usually smear about half of a small jar of the babyfood fruit sauce on a bagel in the morning. This is a very IBS safe way of eating the fruit sauce because the soluble fibre (which is the bagel or toast) makes it much easier to tolerate the fruit.
