I have been stable for a few weeks now **PRAISE GOD** and doing very well. As I am a "C" just to be able to "GO" every day without pain is a joy.
I just started using progesterone cream a week ago to see if it would help with my monthly mood swings (I am not a moody person, this is clearly hormonal) and for some reason seem to be riddled with gas but only in the morning. I work from home so it's not an issue of "office tact" or anything like that. It's just a little gross.
I am wondering if it might be the progesterone cream or not. Any thoughts?

No, Rachel, I don't think it's the cream. I used to be on progesterone, and of course estrogen -- even testosterone! Creams, pills, shots, and patches -- I had it all. But I never had that side effect from any of them.
However, I DID develop extreme gas and urgent D when I increased my Acacia. How much SFS are you on? Have you been increasing your dosage? For me, that would be suspect. Try cutting back just a little. You might be at your personal maximum dosage; everyone's tolerance level is different.

For the moment I am stable simply by eating properly...not bad for a "major C".
Seems to me I could just be "full of hot air"

Hey Rachel,
How great that your have been stable. That's wonderful!
Fortunately, I've never had to go on progesterone so I don't have first hand knowledge. I have read about it though and, especially if it is a cream absorbed by the skin, I've never read about that side effect.
Like Bev said, check your Acacia dose. Also, are you keeping a food diary to be sure it's not anything else?
Why not just stop the cream for a few days and see what happens. That's what I would do.
Did you hear that we were getting a cool front and our temp in Houston for Sat & Sun morning will be 68? Can you believe that for August!!! Also, I'm so happy both those tropical storms aren't headed here. We still have a long time left for hurricane season, though.

Hi Rachel,
Don't know if this helps, but I'm 33 with IBS-D and have been on progesterone shots (depo) to stop my periods since '99. I do this expressly to lessen the symptoms of my IBS, and to stop my endometriosis which would have me bedridden 5 days each month. I started on progesterone 10 years ago, going off occasionally, but now I've realized I get the most benefit when I'm on.
I notice on the day of the shot I get extremely C. This has been constant with the last 20 shots. (It's when I can really eat with abandon and almost completely disregard my IBS diet.)

Well, I'm D (gassy, explosive), so I regulate all that extra gas with the simethicone that's in the imodium advanced chewables.
When I get my shot, I eat more. The more I eat, the gassier I get (more food, more digestion). The shot makes me C, but doesn't, on its own, give me gas.
Hope this helps!
