HI I am new to this whole thing. My dr recently started treating me for Chrone's. He's not sure I have that. I have had terrible problems for years, but have ignored them.I had my gallbladder out about 10 years ago and had difficulties with diarhea. I thought my problems were related to that. But as time went on I developed terrible cramping. I am not thin. I gain weight too easily. So I don't know what's going on with me. The dr has me on Pentasa. Can anyone relate?

Hi, and welcome!! You're in the right place. I can sure relate to the cramping -- had a bout of it just the other night. But by following Heather's approach, I've reduced the frequency of the cramping dramatically and have eliminated the diarrhea for almost 7 months now.

There's a few people on the board who've had their gall bladders removed. Might want to do a search and see what they said. Also, did you check the separate Crohn's and Colitis board here?

Keep coming back!

Hey, have you had a colonoscopy? That should help diagnose Chron's. You don't want to be on meds for that if you haven't got it! I'd go see your doc again!

Diarrhoea and cramping are classic IBS symptoms. Why not start taking a soluble fibre supplement? It can't hurt and if it turns out to be IBS after all it should really help.

they kept telling me I had mild Crohns... finally did some tests and they showed no ulcers... but in my case they were making the diagnosis based on several family members who had crohsn.. then I had to wiat and do the no gluten free thing because I also have a family history of Celiacs and they thought that might be causing things.. now we know its not... I have IBS-A and am supposed to be "playing" with the diet to find the missign triggers.. I know red meat/pork, dairy at all (even lactose free), and high fat are definite triggers.. but am not sure what else is.. The doc gave me some guidelines to follow and I have been looking online and think I am going to try Heathers plan with some simple adjustments since I know there are some things that don't set me off at all.. the lists the doctor gave me as guidelines to start from contradict themselves, and some safe foods for me are on the never eat list and some non safe things are on the ok lists of each one.. none of them says no dairy, they all say light amounts of fat free dairy and I can't handle any, including yogurt.. that and beef were the first things I noticed causing problems 15+ years ago... and stopped eating entirely... I left dairy in until more recently, but thankfully both rice and soy milk work for most things- like cereal and some baking even.... I won't touch a think with dairy, but most dark chocolate is dairy free... so that works for me.
