I posted this question yesterday on the regular board and maybe it should be on this one.
I have IBS-C and want to know if taking ground flax seed meal in water would help with the constipation or does it make things worse. Also, if I can take it how much?
I'm already taking Fibercon and Benefiber and am still very constipated. I also had to quit taking Zelnorm which had helped for 3 mons. Any advice??? Please!!

My mother has diverticulitis (but not IBS) and she had big problems for years. I told her to try flax. She got flaxseed meal at the health food store and she sprinkles it on her cereal every morning. She said it helped more than anything she'd ever tried, and she felt better than she has in years.

I don't know about the Fibercon and Benefiber, but ACACIA might be better than either of them. Regarding the C, though, try applesauce or cooked rhubarb.

I just got Falx seed (grounded) yesterday. It says to take 2 table spoons a day. That seems like a lot. How much does your mother take? Did she start off gradually? I was given this beacuse I am both, D and C, it swicthes every now and then. Thanks!

Mom puts the flax seed meal on her cereal. I think she started out just sprinkling a little on there to try it out, and now dumps a spoonful or two on and mixes it with cereal (oatmeal or cold cereal or whatever). I sprinkle some on my hot cereal now and then too. It's quite tolerable, and really helps her a lot.
