I'm doing well. Graduated a week ago Friday <huge sigh of relief>. Half of my stuff is in my apartment in Nashville with my boyfriend; the other half is here with me; I feel split in half too. (I'm sure I'll survive!) Food issues are a little tough here with my family--lots of red meat and salads--I'll be glad to be buying my own groceries again when I go back to Nashville in July. Well, that's what's going on with me. Thanks for asking, and I hope you feel better every day.

Hi! When I was first diagnosed with IBS, I too continued to eat foods, even though I knew they bothered me. I have had IBS I think since I was young, but was only diagnosed when I was 26. I also had stomach problems when I was younger, especially to dairy, but the doctor just told my mom I had a nervous stomach and was using it as an excuse for not going to school. When I told my mom about being diagnosed with IBS, she felt that was probably what I had been suffering from as a child, but the doctors didn't know anything about it then.

When I meet my husband 6 years ago, I was still suffering from bad attacks, and I kept my illness from him. One night he found me doubled over in pain, and I told him everything about my illness. He taught me how to control my stress, which helped, and I decided it wasn't worth the pain, and stopped eating the foods that were triggering the attacks. At first it was hard, and I'm not saying I don't have major cravings for those foods now, but I just remember what they do to me and skip it. It is still hard for me, especially at family functions, but I just make something I can eat and take it. I do get depressed, but I have a wonderful, supportive husband, who helps me get thur those moments. I am so lucky to have found a guy like him.

My foods I can eat are: potatoes(baked,mashed(with dairy free margerine, and soy milk, no skin), pasta,(plain), cheerios, sorbet, chicken, with the fat cut off, salmon, halibut, brown rice, rice crackers, oatmeal cookies, vanilla wafers, (dairy and whey free), celery, squash, aspargus, green salad, pork chops(fat cut off), oat bran waffles(I make myself),pretzels, applesauce, bananas, pears, peaches, suger peas in the pod, oat and honey bread, french bread, baked lays, egg whites. There is other stuff that I'm adding in and deleting too.

Ruchies idea about keeping a dairy is a good idea. I started doing that when I first was eliminiting foods that were triggers.

Just know that there are others like you, who have a hard time giving up foods that trigger, but it can be done and we can help support and be there with you as you do it.

Hi Karen,
Thanks so much for your reply. It meant alot to me to know I'm not the only one who's had a hard time giving up the foods that make me sick. Your words offered me alot of hope and support and I'm more greatful than you will ever know...
I have a very loving and supportive fiancee who has gotten educated to IBS and is very helpful and understanding.I love him lots!!!!!!
