Have heard fasting can help get things working again. Bit unsure about it, but maybe if you took supplements every meal time & drank lots & lots of water?

I will just be flat honest and say that NO I do not think it is a good idea. For one, your system needs something in it regularly to work on, especially your stomach, it does not need sit empty long. And when you start eating again your system will go a wreck, like - whoa, food is in here! But for two, there are other risks involved like getting accustomed to not eating or getting "hooked" on losing weight that way, that are not good things to get into. I'm speaking from experience here, so I'd say a big fat NO. Good luck!

I agree 100% with Michelle. Even when im going through a bad ibs attack, i find that snacking on little things does me much better than if i just stop eating all together.(even its as simple as applesauce) When i first got ibs, i thought fasting would do me good, but all it did was make me lose 12 pounds! It was horrible and I would never do that again!

I've heard that fasting can be very cleansing, but I agree with the others - for people with our problem, it is a bad idea.
I think if you want to try something in that spirit, drinking lots of water/tea, taking the supplements, but then also eating small amounts of perfectly safe foods throughout the day (so there is always something in the stomach/intestines) you would do ok. I would try foods from Heather's "breaking the cycle" page... Fat free saltines, bread, white rice...
I do that once in awhile just to stabilize myself.
