I have never smoked so I can't give you any advise but I do wish you lots of luck.

This summer makes 2 years smoke-free for me. I actually quit New Year's 2000, but still smoked if I was drinking (which varied anywhere from 1-2 x a month to not at all).
Now, I feel (and smell!) so much better.
Good luck to you! You can do it!
PS - the first 1-2 weeks were the worst for me. After that, it was MUCH easier.

I quit... wow, I guess it's been about 5 years ago already. Huh, time flies. Anyway, I did it, and I know you can too - I'll be rooting for ya! Good luck!

It's was a year in March for me that I quit. It's soooo hard but the Nicotene patch really really helped. Just don't use the patch at night, it causes bad dreams!
Nicotene gum was okay but too hard on my stomach. Good luck to you! Be prepared for a difficult first week. If you can get thru that you'll be in good shape.

Doesn't quitting SUCK!?! We quit cold turkey about 8 times in the past few months. LOL. But we are doing it for good this time. I have more motivation for some reason....I'm really determined this time. It's been 2 days. I know that's not long - but it's awesome for me. I have, however, smoked some Quest No Nicotine cigarrettes - holy cow they are DISGUSTING. Kinda helping me to quit though!
Good luck. I need it too! ~Cara

I used to smoke. EVERYONE did in the '50's! You couldn't go to anyone's home without finding a sterling silver cigarette holder and matching Ronson lighter set, with of course a beautiful glass ashtray on the coffee table. Everyone wanted to be like Ricky and Lucy.
I started in '59. I quit in 1968. It wasn't easy, but damn I'm glad I did! Just think if I hadn't, all those years -- WOW! Gee, would I still be alive? Maybe not....
Marilyn, I'm a weakling. If I was really strong, I'd stop eating and lose a little weight. My point is, if I can quit smoking, YOU can!
Now, whenever I get stuck inhaling second-hand smoke, it just totally disgusts me -- and don't get me started on smelling it in people's hair and clothing! GROSS!
How did I quit cold turkey, you ask? I'll tell you. I was up to 2 packs a day (that's when a pack cost only 25 cents), and had developed a terrible hacking cough. (My body was trying to tell me something, and I wouldn't listen.) Anyway, I happened upon a medical book or article with very discriptive pictures of a healthy lung and a really gross, disgusting lung of a smoker. That did it!
Good luck, and don't hesitate to come back here and vent and complain and scream. We're here to support you. We want you to quit. YOU want you to quit. You CAN do it.

Thanks everybody. I've quit before ,for yrs while I raised my kids .. I'll do it again real soon.. I keep telling myself... But thanks for the pump up speeches. If you read another post I made earlier, I said My Mom died from emphzema(sp) and now my dad has lung cancer( he quit 20 yrs ago) I'm helping my dad go thru his treaments and appt. ,etc. Smoking is gross. All my friends and family say quit smoking but it's ok to drink alcohol. I can be an alcoholic but just don't smoke. I'm not much of a drinker at all. Funny how the world attacks cigs , but alcohol is ok.
