I had my colonoscopy at about 3:40 this afternoon. The prep was AWFUL. I took the Magnesium citrate (10oz) then 2 laxatives, then had 2 glasses of the gallon and started throwing up. Called the doc and he said that that shouldn't happen, and that there was no way I would be able to drink the gallon if I can't even get 2 glases down. ( I love it when doctors say obvious things )

He told me to go get phosphate soda, and drink 4 tsp. of that and then do another 4 tsp in 3 hours. Well, I got most of the first dose down and starting throwing up again. Picture it. Me sitting on the can pooping and at the same time throwing up into a wastebasket infront of me. NOT my idea of fun.

So I stopped that with the quickness. Fell asleep for a bit, then got up around 4am and did the other dose of phosphate.

I was worried that they wouldn't be able to do it bc I wasn't pooping competely clearly. But apparently it was enough.

Bev, you were right. The drugs were awesome. I kept asking people if it was done yet.

In the end, everything is ok. No polups, no crohns, no diverticulitis. Nothing. Means it's IBS. Which I already knew. Ha. But at least it ruled out everything else. Now I need to buy Heather's books and really get my body on the right track!

Thanks for listening and for all your support guys. I am so grateful. You are wonderful.
Muah!

Good news about the results of your colonoscopy! What an ordeal. I felt the anxiety was worse than the actual reality, but it sounds like your prep was far worse than I dealt with. The drugs are indeed wonderful - I couldn't remember a thing, but apparently I kept talking about how cute the doctor was - OMG! Here's a 50+ woman babbling under a drug induced state about this cute guy in his early 30's. How embarrassing.

So anyway - now on to dealing with IBS - I delayed it myself, but the regimen is working, so do it. Take it slow with the fiber. The tea really helps. I've found for me cutting out eggs and dairy have really helped. Eat often - little bits of good stuff.

We're with you

Wow, what a story! Amazing about the prep. I never heard of that happening before. I'm sorry you went through all that. I know about holding a chamberpot under my mouth as I'm on the pot, with stuff coming out both ends at the same time. It's not fun. I am SOOOO sorry for you.

But then, you enjoyed the drugs? Yeah, I wish they could bottle that stuff! I actually kissed my GI after the procedure! And he was no 30-year-old cutie! EW.

Well, it's over now. And you now know what you have -- and DON'T have. That's great. (Well, it's not great that you have IBS, it's great that you have a diagnosis.)

Yes, you definitely need Heather's books, especially "The First Year." Can you tolerate peppermint? Heather sells peppermint caps which work as a great antispasmodic (for those infamous cramps). Did your doc give you any prescription for the cramping? Did he tell you to take Citrucel? (That's all my GI did for me.)

Welcome to the Club, Girlfriend. I'm sorry you're a member, but we're all very supportive -- after all, we're all in the same boat.

Bev

The doc didn't tell me anything. I was her last Colonoscopy of the day so i think she wanted to leave. She said that she would see me in her office. But I don't think I need to go back unless I'm having problems (thats what my info sheet said, anyway). But I do have an appointment in 2 weeks. I think I'll call her and find out what's up. Talking to PTs when they are still under drugs is NOT a good idea!

And yes Bev, I can tolerate peppermint. I drink the tea. Papaya is great too. Any other tips?

I think me and my mom are going to go shopping today bc I'm "Too sick" to go into work. He he. That should make me feel better!

Congrats on getting it over and done with. Mine's July 6 and I'm ready for it. It sounds like you were still in one piece when it was over, which is great! Thanks for the update and enjoy your "sick" day off from work!

your post made me laugh, picturing you on the can! I was there last year, same scenario!! The prep is way worse than the procedure. I've done it 3 times now, and DO not want to do it ever again. So glad that they did not find anything, but you are right, you need to follow Heather's diet, and you will start to feel stable again. She has changed my life so much. Finally some answers, as the docs are no help with this condition. Lots of luck to you.
