Equalactin question..Bev, anyone? (m)

I've been having great results with Equalactin. I take it usually once a day before a meal. (usually lunch time) in addition to fibercon (about 4) in the morning. That seems to be doing it for me. No attacks in months. If I go out to dinner or think I'll be eating something that might not agree with me, I'll take another 2 Equalactin. Here is my question. Do you know how much fiber is in these? They say on the package not to take for more than 3 days. Is this not good to be taking every day or do they have to say that on the labels of everything.

Thanks!
Sandy

I am not sure how much fiber is in one....or if it is even SF?
I do know that I was taking it everyday just like you to begin with, and I posted a question very similar - and almost everyone said they dont take it everyday - it's too expensive for that. Most people just take it when they feel an attack coming, or are out to eat, etc. So I stopped taking them everyday, and I didn't notice any changes.
So..bottom line, I think it's more for 'equal'izing your stomach when an attack is coming. I wouldn't get hooked on taking it daily.

Maybe someone else can help better?
Good luck!

Hey - equalactin is an SFS - I think it technically could be taken every day, but since it is way more expensive than others for the amount you'd need, most just take it as "extra precaution" or help.
Correct me if I'm wrong on this as well, but don't many if not all the SFS's that are marketed as fiber "laxatives" say on the bottle/box not to take for longer than 2 weeks.
I think thats because it is a "laxative" (we know its not though). Someone please tell me if I am wrong!

Heather touches on this a little in "The First Year." See p. 162.

Quote:

Soluble fiber supplements can be taken daily forever with no side effects or risk of addiction.

She's also discussed it in the Boards here, so you might try a search. As I recall, that warning on the box not to take for an extended period of time is just to "cover their a**."

There's only a half gram soluble fiber in Equalactin, as in Fibercon and Citrucel capsules -- VERRY little.

I'm glad the Equalactin is working for you. I don't use it every day; I keep it in my purse for emergencies only. Have you tried any of the powders, like Benefiber or Heather's Acacia? Citrucel gets thick and has a taste, so I don't care for it, but Benefiber and Acacia both have no taste and don't thicken. Benefiber especially dissolves instantly. The reason I mention it is that the powder has twice as much soluble fiber than the pills, and I believe much more economical. Just a thought.

However, if something's working for you, don't fix it. Sounds like you have a happy tummy -- and that's the bottom line. Congratulations.

Bev

Heather states in "The First Year" on pg. 162:

Quote:

So please ignore the fact that soluble fiber supplements are marketed as laxatives -- they are NOT.
