... and am planning on increasing every 4-5 days, as long as it continues to give me no problems.

Oh yeah, and I guess I'm technically IBS-A, although I'm primarily a D.

!!!!!A LOT!!!!

I'm a severe "C"..........no D's, no A's about it.

I take between 30g to 35g of SFS daily, in the form of Acacia, Citrucel, and Konsyl.............Acacia before meals, Citrucel tabs when out or the powder at home, and Konsyl at night.

The rest of my fiber is from food and, after a year and a half, keep adding more and more insoluble fiber foods.............HOWEVER.........I know when I've over done it with the insolubles...and the gut has a way of telling you about it. That's when I slip back to more soluble fiber foods, but I never reduce my SFS. By using acacia before meals it acts as a buffer and I rarely take any antispasmodics now. It all works for me!!!

Wow Kandee, I can't imagine taking 35 grams - does that solve your C problems most of the time?
So far, I am taking 2-4g every other day, my stomach doesn't seem to be able to handle it every day so far so we'll see...i'm working on it slowly. I've been having so-so days so far but it should hopefully improve. Thanks for your input everyone!

ok, turns out they don't print the details very clearly on the SFS box I have. I went to the website and realized I was actually taking 3-6g of soluble.
Now I have question. The SFS I am taking (Metamucil) contains exactly 3g of soluble and 3g of insoluble PER SERVING. Now wouldn't that in effect just cancel one another out? Hmmm....
And although there is 6g of TOTAL DIETARY fiber per dose, I only count the 3g's of SOLUBLE, right?
Sheesh its difficult figuring this all out!

They don't cancel eachother out silly!
All I know is that I remember reading a post from Heather - and you're right - you ONLY count the 3 grams of soluble towards the goal of 12-15 grams. It took me forever to figure everything out, and I still get confused sometimes! Good luck!

I take 6g Citrucel every day (Fibercon when I'm not home)and I eat lots of soluble fiber each day. I'm IBS A but was mostly C after starting to the diet (adding as much insoluble fiber as I could comfortably tolerate helped the C). I've been feeling pretty good on this regimen.

Hope this helps!

I take 3 grms benefiber twice a day and also eat oatmeal, 2 slices of wheat bread & 1/2 c applesauce, EVERY DAY, plus whatever fiber I get from other foods. Word of difference! Oh yeah, used to be IBS D till I eliminated caffeine then became IBS C, now although I know I still have IBS it seems to be under control if I really stick to the low fat diet. Not total low fat by any means, but just not too much fat. Still room for Tofuttis and a few cookies and my regular mayo.
