Hello all! About 10 years ago my dr. diagnosed me as anemic and told me to take a multi-vitamin with iron. So I have ever since then. Currently, I take a women's multi-vitamin everyday. Does anyone here with IBS-C take a multi-vitamin with iron? I was wondering if switching would help me go to the bathroom more effectivly but am afraid of getting weak again from anemia. Any advice is appreciated!

I take a multivitamin with iron and I'm IBS-C. I make sure to take one with iron since I was anemic in the past (no more, thanks to the Pill! ) and since I don't eat red meat.
I haven't noticed it making much difference one way or the other in my IBS. If I don't take my Ca/Mg supplement, I feel less stable; but if I forget my multivitamin, I really don't notice any changes.

Both iron and calcium supplements make my C much worse! In fact, my IBS-C problems started when I began taking calcium supplements.

Thanks for your response! You may think this sounds crazy because I sure do but when I don't take the multi-vitamin, I get constipated. It is like my body is so dependant on them. It should be the exact opposite since iron causes constipation.

Mine got worse with the calcium too until I changed to the calcium and magensium. The magnesium works as a laxative and the calcium causes constipation so it balances itself out. I was just curious about the iron mostly now. I read on this site that you should take the calcium/magnesium tablets at a different time than the multi-vitamin with iron. It says that iron basically kills the magnesium or it loses its effect.

Interesting! I end up taking my Ca/Mg at a different time than the multivitamin, but only because the multivitamin has Ca in it and I know you can only absorb a limited amount of Ca at one time. Good to know that there are other reasons to space them out....

I take 6 FiberCon tablets a day. Since FiberCon is made of Calcium Polycarbophil, should I reduce the amount of calcium supplements I take each day. Will I run the risk of getting kidney stones if I am taking too much calcium?
