If I have NO pain does that mean I don't have IBS? Have yet to get a straight answer from the doctor?

Nope, don't think so. Everyone's symptoms are different.

The pain can come and go, I had practically no pain for almost two years and then it came back, so I dont think pain is a necessary symptom for IBS,for all people at least

I have very little pain at all. I mean I'll get cramps that let me know I gotta go RIGHT NOW... but aside from that.. I dont' hurt.

Have you had the tests done for a diagnosis of IBS??
What are your symptoms?
Everybody has symptoms a little bit differently. Sometimes I have cramping pain with "D". But, sometimes I have bloating (just uncomfortable) and nausea (yuck) but no pain.

my IBS did not start out with pain. Mine was very gradual. I started with getting sick when I had a period. Then I started to get gas. Then the next was pain.

Nope. Pain is optional. Some people have little or no pain and some have excruciating pain. Have you had a colonoscopy? That's the only way to diagnose IBS properly. Go to your Doc and insist on tests to make sure that other things are ruled out.
