Ok - I am a relative newbie out here - D type. It seems that my symptoms started mildly with menopause, but not anything that really affected my life style. It was wasn't until last summer, when I started reducing my HRT dose that my symptoms started to get worse - like walking the dog and urgently looking for a BR in the park! Then in late Nov. I went off HRT altogether and since then things have definitely gotten worse. I want to know if anyone else has had this experience with HRT withdrawal, or if I am just trying to rationalize my stupid condition. It's only recently that I have realized that this is a "condition" and have started doing something about it, but I am confused as to why at 56 this is hitting me like this.

Hormones and IBS are def. related for us girls, so I guess it's not surprising...

IBS that starts after childhood is often traced back to an "insult" to the gut. This can be a tummy bug (like with me), an operation, a stressful experience... I guess your body's just having a tizz that it hasn't got it's oestrogen anymore!
