I weaned myself off of coffee in three weeks without a headache...praise the Lord! I used to drink two 11-oz mugs of coffee every morning and have for at least 10 years.

For two weeks I cut my coffee in half and drank one 11-0z mug in the morning. The third week I went to one 8-oz mug. I was going to cut it to 4-oz of coffee for another week but woke up thinking it was ridiculous to brew 4 oz of coffee so I just quit.

NOT ONE SINGLE HEADACHE!!!!!!

The only thing I went thorugh was a few bouts of fatigue...

Best of luck to you all going off of caffeine...if it can work for me, it can work for everyone. Rachel

Good girl! What you've done ain't easy! I know -- I had a 42-year addiction, starting in 1961, and I gave it up for good 5 months ago.

I'll be honest with ya -- I still miss it. I thought giving up chocolate would be the worst thing of all, but I was wrong; it's definitely the coffee. I have problems walking by the coffee aisle in the grocery store or walking down the stairs here in our little condo early in the mornings (someone brews it every morning, and the smell settles in the stairway). My hairdresser knows not to brew it while I'm in her shop (isn't she considerate!). I've tried substitutes, such as Teeccino, but ew ick. (However, Miss Pepper, Heather and Will love the stuff.) I'm going to be trying SoyFree, another substitute, as soon as it arrives, probably next week.

So far, the best thing I've had that tastes like the real thing is my beloved Soy Dream Mocha Fudge Non-Dairy Dessert (from the health food store). It's got coffee in it, but not much; it's half-way down the ingredient list. And it doesn't bother me at all. I put a scoop in one of my old coffee mugs and let it melt a little, then I mix the fudgy part into the "ice cream" part 'till it's real soupy, then pretend I have myself a cup of iced frappuccino. It's HEAVENLY!

One more little hint: don't give in to the temptation, whatever you do. Not even one little sip. My favorite coffee is at ihop; that's gotta be the best EVER. When we go there for breakfast, it's hard. One time I gave in to the temptation and had a sip of hubby's joe. OMG! OMG! Wow, was that a big mistake! I kept tasting that incredible cuppa gold for WEEKS afterwards, craving it something terrible. Whatever you do, don't be as stupid as me.

Good luck,
Bev.

Thanks for the pointer on not giving in! I am a huge Starbucks fan and twice I have gone in to get a decaf carmel machiato with soy milk....it's just not the same. I have been sorely tempted many times especially going down the coffee aisle....thank God for good strength! For those of you reading this post...please know that you can do it too!

Have a herbal tea instead! I know, I know, it's no where near the same, but at least you're not shunned from Starbucks! They do one that's relaxing and has Chamomile in it that I like.

Congrats, Rachel!! Giving up coffee was pretty awful for me too, but aren't you proud of yourself now that you did it?? You should be!
