Hey Ya'll,

for the fifty millionth time.. I am IBS-D. Anyways, yesterday my boyfriend got his masters degree, and I went to his graduation. Well, I popped two immodium to stop any problems before they start.. I went to his graduation, then we decided to go out to eat with his family at a place about an hour away (halfway in between our apartment, and his parents house). So I figured hmmm long car ride, and random restuarant, Its better to be safe then sorry and popped two more. I ate, then we drove home, took a nap and went to a bbq kinda party and got a lil tipsy.. (ok alot tipsy.. but that is besides the point.)

YAY! I didn't have to go to the bathroom yesterday and could enjoy my boy's graduation, dinner, and a party!!
However.. I find that immodium kinda makes me gassy.. which I dont' usually have a huge problem with. I also haven't gone yet.. which is very strange. I can't remember ever being constipated in my life.

Anyways, I know that some people take immodium daily.. or did take immodium daily.. how did that help you? HOw many and when.. did it totally stop you up.. cause its having that effect on me right now. But it could just be cause I took four in one day.. but I really wanted to enjoy my time. The only bad part is, is that even though immodium works wonders, I usually get D within the next day. not the case as of yet though..

Be super careful with Immodium. A lot of people seem to be happy taking it pretty regularly -- I think LauraSue does -- but it always swings me into C for a week, and I NEVER get C in general. But, that being said, I think you probably made a wise choice by taking some. Next time, just don't take 4. Two should probably do the trick. My brother got married 2 weeks ago, and his poor nervous bride took 3. Well suffice it to say, she had a very "unproductive" honeymoon. I seriously think she's still waiting to eliminate everything. So be careful!
Do you carry equalactin? They seem to be helping a little for me. I went to Shrek 2 yesterday and had severe cramping through the whole movie, but managed to stay in my seat until the end. I must have taken about 4 equalactin. To my amazment I still got D, but it was about 2 hours after I got back from the movie. I've just been abusing my tummy lately though, so I'm not surprised it rebelled.
Anyway try the equalactin if you haven't already. -- drugstore.com.

Hi Ashley,

I don't have an answer to your question because I don't take Immodium daily, never have. And I've never taken more than one at a time.

Actually, I have a question for you. Why did you take the Immodium instead of Equalactin? I'm also a D, so I have a reason to ask. I would have taken Equalactin; in fact, I usually DO take it in such a situation as yours. (BTW, congrats to BF! Master's Degree! VERRRY impressive! He's gonna go far....)

Anywho.... have you ever taken FOUR Immodium at a time before? That seems like a lot to me. You really wanted to make it through the evening, didn't you Girlfriend!?

You probably haven't gotten the D back because of the dosage you took -- but it'll eventually go through you, I'm sure. Look at it this way, you MADE IT through the granulation AND the BBQ. Yaay!

Four is alot of Immodium! Glad you enjoyed the day tho.

I took it for a while - it really helped me stabilise and get on with life. I only took 1 tablet a day and even that made me a bit C (but I prefered being C as it was a nice change from months of D!).

You can actually get it in liquid form so that you can take a really small dose, but you might need a specialist pharmacy for that.

I'd up your SFS for a while to help get you back to normal. And if you take it again, I would never take 4 in one day. 2 should be enough.

Hi,

Thanks for the input! I'll tell the BF you said great job!!
Anyways, I have tried equalactin before and I do think that it helps greatly. Although, everytime I've taken it is after an attack already started. Everytime I've taken equalactin its been after at least one bout of D. I didn't know you could take it as a preventitive like immodium. I thought it was for after the fact. It seems to work well at stopping future attacks though after I've had one rush to the bathroom. I have also read about people taking them right when they feel an attack to stop them from starting, but that could never be the case for me. Usually my first signs of attack come within five minutes AT THE MOST of finding a bathroom, so it wouldn't help much under that situation.

But you can take it to make it stop D before a big day?

I have never taken four immodiums in one day before.. and I definitly didn't take them all at the same time. The dosage for adults is two pills, as far as I know. I took two at about 8:30am and then two more at about 2:30.. we ate a late lunch.

I will be careful from now on, especially since i'm really gassy now.. which I don't know why but seems to happen whenever I take immodium.

And sorry about your cramps at the movie theater. I saw shrek two the other day and it was hysterical. I loved it. But I hate attacks at the movie theater, and I've had them more than a few times. lately Vinnie makes sure we get aisle seats so I can get out easily, and luckily its been a few months since my last attacks at a movie theater. I hate it so much!

Hey Linz,

How long did you take 1 immodium a day for, and did it seem to help?

Oh and I read on other posts about your wedding!! It sounds soooo exciting!!

Uh...it was quite a few months. But I only take a tablet on REALLY bad days now. It really helped me to stabilise.

Yep, I'm getting married in not very long at all! July 10th, in fact. I'm very excited, just a bit stressed!

Yeah, if you're anticipating something stressful (and that usually translates into D for us D people), the Equalactin calms the tummy down incredibly well. Of course, if you're standing at the cutting counter in the fabric store, being waited on, and suddenly it hits you, and you have to run out of line into the only unisex bathroom in the store, well, it's too late for Equalactin. That's when I'd pull out the Imodium. (Unfortunately, there were none in my purse, so I had to turn to the Equalactin. That's the only time the Equalactin didn't work for me.)

Ain't this fun?

I used to take Immodium every single day! Now I only take it for big occasions I can't afford to be sick for. I think after a while my body became immune to the Immodium every day. Now it works better when I take it once in a while. It's a good way to guarantee that I won't have some troubles at a party or a celebration. I would drink lots of water today to hopefully get your stomach moving again since all the Immodium yesterday seems to have put the brakes on everything for you!

Hi, Ashley!

Yes, I take Imodium frequently but not every day. I take one caplet whenever my tummy feels a little iffy. I used to wait until I had an attack, but learned from this board actually to take it as a preventive, to nip the attack in the bud before it happens. I also take it before meals out. (Restaurant meals have always been my worst trigger.)

I'm SO GLAD it worked for you. Regarding the gas, about three months ago I started taking two Phazyme (aka Gas-X or Gas Relief) every morning and haven't had a bad gas problem since. Again I used to take only as needed after I got gassy.

And of course I only take the recommended dose and never exceed the maximum daily dose on either one. It does stop me up a bit sometimes, but never for more than 2-3 days (which I still consider being "regular"). And I infinitely prefer that to an attack of D.
