Hi,

I think of buying acacia. I read so many posts from people who had good results with it... I hope it will help for my pain, contipation, spasms and bloating (these are my main symptoms)...

When I looked on the link "shop for ibs", I saw a special if you buy the 2 books and the acacia.

I was wondering, is there a lot more info on the diet in the books compared to the site? There's so much info on this site. Besides the recipies, what are the major difference between the books and the sites? I saw on the sites that there's 256 paged on the "eating for ibs". How many pages are recipies?
Thanks!
Byebye

If you can't afford both books, then go for "The First Year." It's our bible. You need that one for sure. The other book is mainly a recipe book; it's contains a lot of great recipes, and you can buy it at a later date.

Yes, it does contain a lot more info than you'll find here, unless of course you read each and every single post here that's ever been written. That's a LOT! Besides, the book is more "concentrated," everything is right there in front of you, so you don't have to weed through a lot of posts to get to whatever you want to know.

I am SOOO doing a lousy job of this.....

You can buy "The First Year" at a book store if you don't want to order it online. But it's really a must have. I paid US$15. The special offer of both books and the acacia is a good one; I'd go for it. I have both books and, yes, the acacia too. In fact, I've ordered LOTS of acacia.

If you don't take the acacia now, what are you taking? Citrucel? Fibercon? Benefiber? Metamucil? I personally like acacia best, but there are people here who prefer Citrucel, and I'm sure others as well, but I believe most of us take the acacia.

I think the acacia is great stuff, provided you pay attention to the dosage and don't OD on it like I did. The back of the package will tell you how much to take. READ the package! (I didn't -- like an idiot. DUH.) It's a different concentration from other SFS. 1T = 5g. You want to work UP TO 15g./day, NO MORE. Why couldn't I have read that? You start out very slowly and work up to 12-15g. Sounds simple, doesn't it? (Not for me! DOH.)

Your symptoms will ease up considerably once you get the book and follow the diet, take the SFS, exercise, drink all the water, cut out all coffee (the toughest part for me), and, most importantly, come back to the Boards and ask lots of questions. Everyone here is VERY helpful!

Hi, Thanks a lot for the answer!!

For the diet (with food), I follow it perfectly for a long time now!!! I see a naturopath who helps me a lot!!

Now what i'm not doing well is the soluble fiber supplement. Years ago, I triied metamucil and It didn't help. I was still constipated (but a little bit less than now if I remember well) but I was soooooo bloated!!! Now, I think that i'm SCARED to start again with soluble fiber supplements since i'm in a bad period!!! The pain and the constipation ARE really bad for more than I week now!!!

This is what I do now. This is from a post that I wrote days ago:
Quote:

For the soluble fiber supplement, I'm going to try acacia soon.
For now, since I was never able to take soluble fiber supplements (even in really small amounts) It always increased the pain and the bloating. My naturopath (who aften suggests soluble fiber supplement) told me that it won't be a good idea for me (not for now) to introduce supplement .Therefore, she suggested that I soak flaxseeds in water for hours. After, to strain them and to drink the water. This way I only have the soluble part of the flaxseed. She told me that it is a gentle way to start adding soluble fiber. She even uses this method with babies who suffer from constipation. When I'll be able to take the maximum dose that she suggested (2 tbsp per day), I'm going to start acacia.

I'm almost at the 2 tbsp per day and i'm still constipated. The pain is a little less intense. I'm tring to introduce slowly a bit of insoluble fiber to help with the constipation.

I really thing of triing the acacia. BUT like I said before, I'm SCARED or feeling worse!!

I read many posts on the board and I have the feeling that acacia gave better result with IBS-D? Am I right? Can it really helps with my major symptoms which are constipation, pain and spasms!!!! I read posts from someone who takes acacia and need to incorporate metamucil too to reduce constipation. I don't want to take metamucil!!! Am I going to have good results on my constipation, pain and spasms with acacia alone?
I finally found how to eliminate bloating and gas!!!! I feel so good without it! Will acacia makes bloating and gas come back??? This is something that I WANT to avoid at all cost!!!
Again, I'm a scared about it!!!!!
Any advices from IBS-C people!!! please!!!
Thanks! Byebye!

Anyone out there? This is the first time I've ever posted a response on ANY web site. I'm not sure if or how this will show up.

Anyway. Last year, I hadn't heard of IBS. Now, I'm trying to find out all I can. I'm only 30 and a lg. polyp was found in my colon last summer. I'm active, and not overweight - but since I've been experiencing all these problems with Constipation, I've gained about 10 lbs. My stomache constantly hurts but I find I still always feel hungry, and I go sit in the bathroom for 20 minutes about 4 times a day to no avail. I'm currently on 6mg. of Zelnorm 2ce a day and am supplimenting that with a day's dose of Miralax (another perscription that offered no lasting relief) I'm dying here. The Zelnorm was pretty effective for about 6 months then all of a sudden about 2 weeks ago, IBS hit again really bad. I can't fit into any of my clothes (I look about 6 months pregnant), and am embarassed to leave my house. I am a single mother with a high-pressure job so the stress levels are not likely to go down any time soon. Has anyone out there eaten less and still gained weight fast? I'm SO frustrated!

Bev- I wish that I would have realized sooner- I thought Eating for IBS was the must have, not the First Year! I am going to order it ASAP!
Yikes! Now I'm all excited, can't wait for it to come in the mail!

Welcome, poop! Great screen name! Now that you've been brave enough to reply, how's about starting your own post so everybody can say welcome! Just click on the link at the top that says post (when you're looking at a list of posts, rather than reading one).

Everyone here has had the same problems you're having right now, so you're in the right place.

Welcome again, and keep coming back, okay??
