I believe the bloating could be coming from trapped gas in your intestines. I suffer that a bit. Also water retention with me has caused bloating. To get rid of that I try to drink as much water as possible. I am no expert mind you, but since I have been drinking water it has helped me so much. Gas can make you feel puffy and fat, like you can hardly move.

I just had a thought...if you have celiac, can gluten make you puffy? Does anyone know anything about this? Ky Angel, I think you're right...guess built up/trapped is def. a source of bloating! I'm glad water works for you...how much would you say you drink a day? Do you drink it fast/slow? Cold/warm? I'd LOVE it if I could get my bloating under control!

Thanks, and Happy Friday!

hm, i didnt know water could help with the bloating.I hate feeling bloated because it makes me feel like I just ate 20 pounds in food. I suppose bloating can be a symptom of celiacs but im not sure. Im 100% i dont have celiacs though, because things that contain gluten are actually amonh my safest things to eat. Thanks all!

You see from the research I have done our bodies keep water stored. If we do not drink water it will not release that water that has been stored for a long time. It is nearly like toxins in your body, we sweat to expend that so we can cleanse our bodies. Water will help with anything.. I am building up to drinking 40 ounces a day.. Eventualy I would love to drink nothing but water. Natural is better at all costs

KyAngel,

Thanks so much for the info.! I wish 40 ounces did it for me...I drink about 60 ounces a day (herbal tea included in those ounces...maybe that's the prob?) I think I'll try 40 ounces of just plain ole water in addition to my herbal teas and see if that makes a diff. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks again!!!

Now in some people remember that drinking water may make them feel more bloated, different things work for different people, IBS is so unpredictable it seems. All I know is that your body needs to be relieved of all its toxins, where we take these meds like Bentyl and so forth it does make it at times hard to sweat when we exercise, but drinking water helps our bodies naturally remove all those toxins.

I puff up incredibly! I have ibs-d and by the time the day is through, I swear I look like I'm overdue with twins! I hate this feeling - in the morning, my clothes are baggy and by the end of the day, they are restrictive. I also find it's about 30 mins after a meal and never seems to subside. Let me know the secret of getting rid of this awful basketball in my stomach!

I had terrible trouble with bloating when I first started adding the fiber supplement, but thank goodness it has settled down. Different foods can cause it. (I know the insoluble fiber in beans, fruits and veggies can, and Metamucil can do me in.) There were some promising posts awhile back about charcoal tabs, and I think I recall someone saying that burnt toast works as well. I ment to buy some and try them out, but my gas settled down and I never picked any up. You could try taking some before a meal and see if it helps...

Good luck, it sure isn't fun being bloated.

I am with you on drinking water to get rid of toxins! I do have trouble getting enough water during the day, 8 glasses seems like so much, and sometimes I feel like I have to choke it down even when I'm not thirsty. I know it's important though, and it is getting easier! I did feel a little bloated and sloshy at first, but my body has been handling it better now.

Now I just need to work on bladder excercises... This diet has helped me stop running to the bathroom for D all the time, now I run there to P!

I have been following the tips that Heather gives us. Always make certain we have fiber in our stomachs before eating anything unless it is ofcourse chalked full of soluble fiber. I take 1 Fibercon pill in the middle of the day when I know I will be eating my lunch at work. I get home in the evening and I take some Metamucil before eating my dinner. I find that this virtually causes my bloating and gas to disappear, if we stay away from our trigger foods the gas should not be as prevalent, but IBS is unpredictable.

H2,

Soon your body will be rid of all the water weight it has been storing and you won't run to the bathroom so frequently to P. When I first started drinking water I was always in the bathroom. But slowly I worked into my old P schedule. LOL

I am yet another one of us "lucky ones" suffering incredible bloating!

I find I get such a terrible pain with it which is in my stomach and also my lower back. It's almost like a pressure building that's going to explode. For that reason I think it's trapped gas in the intestines. Does anyone else get that? I have it really bad right now.

Kerrie, I'm so sorry! (((HUGS))) Yes, I get that too...2 out of 3 times I eat! For me it usually is trapped gas...nowadays when this happens, I go for a LONG walk and work it out. I try to do the walk before it gets back to "outsmart it" I know that's hard with kids...but maybe if you just walk around the kitchen or something, pace back and forth, the second you finish eating that will help. I hope so!

Happy Friday!

I have been having gas like crazy the last couple days. I don't have diarrhea much but I had it pretty much all week because I was taking a medication that was giving me diarrhea and nausea, and needless to say, I had to quit taking the medication. My left side hurts and the gas is coming out and I have taken 2 charcoal tablets this morning, and I plan on taking another one after I eat. As long as the gas is pushing out, it will eventually go away, right?

I hate to say this, but I'm glad I'm not alone with the bloating and having my belly look like I'm 4 months pregnant! I did a little digging and found that there is a medical difference between bloating and distention. Bloating is just feeling larger than normal, but distention is when the belly is actually larger than normal. Here's the link if anyone is interested.
http://www.medicinenet.com/Intestinal_Gas_Belching_Bloating_Flatulence/page1.htm

I haven't found anything that works for distention except doing some yoga (light workout) and relaxing.

The more gas I can get to come out, the more it helps with the pain. There are days I just can't get it to go anywhere though . Anyways, the fact that you can pass it I think is a good sign.

I also get the pain in my lower back. Usually it feels like it has been really badly bruised and is quite uncomfortable! I try to stretch out sometimes, but that can end up in cramps. I also try to lye straight on the floor for a while. ANy tips?

See our bodies will retain water. As our bodies hold onto that water toxins can set in. We normally sweat out any extra water that our bodies retain and it will hold to that water unless we drink extra. Water added with soluble fiber will line our intestinal tracts and make food easier to slip through Water is the key to good digestion along with soluble fiber. I have read as much as possible about what water can do for the body. All I drink anymore is water and tea.

I get that too, but only if I a) eat too late at night, b) eat something that causes me to have gas. At first I thought it was in my mind, but I measured my belly and it was one inch bigger! Next morning, that inch was gone.

I'm also IBS-D!

I find the best thing to help me is lying with my legs over a chair. (I posted some info on this on the yoga board)

Also wind pose is good. (lying on back with both knees hugged in to the chest.

What are charcoal tablets for? I have horrible bloating. My stomach gets really hard right after I eat, and it really looks like I'm having a baby. I drink at least 64 ounces a day, (usually 96 ounces) but this still happens. Does the Charcoal tablets keep your stomach from puffing up like a ball? I'll try anything.
