..okay I've probably asked this before, but, does anyone know how to get enough protein if you don't feel like eating meat, being on this diet. I know I get extremely gassy so I'm afraid of beans and stuff, which are what most people eat for protein who don't eat meat, right? Also, how much protein do I need a day? Is a cup of soy milk enough? Sorry for being a pain for asking this again! I just want to make sure I'm getting enough of everything I need to be eating. Like today so far for breakfast I had some bread (Heather's baguette recipe) with a little honey
for a snack I had some of Heather's Brown Sugar Banana Bread (yum!) with a cup of warm soy milk (it was the kind with added vitamins)
Then for my next snack/meal I used Mags' idea for using a tortilla to make tortilla chips, and I used that with some rice I had made a while back w/ a little chile powder and oregano, and some of Heather's guacamole (minus the cilantro), and a little of Heather's mango tomato salsa stuff. And it's 4pm here. That's not too bad, right? I'm doing better, right? So, back to my question...what to do for the protein? I was trying to find protein powder. Do you think that's the best way for me? Thanks! Hope you're doing well. Sorry I haven't posted much..I've been pretty tired.

Hi there, Cutie!

Yeah, protein powder works real well in smoothies. If you go to the health food store, you'll find all different flavories -- including chocolate! -- but I like vanilla best. GREAT in a fruit smoothie!

Have you tried Kree's infamous mac & soy cheese? I had it for lunch today. It's fab! (Okay, so I add a little extra cheese.)

I also love scrambled Egg Beaters. I add soy cheese and grilled onion -- YUMMERS! Excellent protein here.....

What about those protein bars -- Luna I think? I don't eat them -- never have -- so I can't say anything about them. However, they've been discussed here at length -- try a search for "Luna" and see what comes up.

My fave protein is salmon. (I have high cholesterol, and salmon is full of essential omega-3 and omega-6 oils, excellent for the good cholesterol.) Grilled salmon is to die for. Have you tried it? GREAT protein, girlfriend!

How much protein to have every day? When I was 47 years old, I saw a nutritionist who gave me a meal plan of 1,445 calories a day, based on my fitness level (I was rowing competitively at the time), consisting of 1/2 serving of milk, 8 starch, 1 fruit, 5 meat, 3 fruit, 3 veggies, and 3 fat. (Now, at my age, that's WAAAAY too much, but for someone much younger who has a higher metabolism, it's not.) I don't know your age (but I think it's around 16, right?), but your calorie needs are much different from someone older. I recommend you check out a website like www.annecollins.com/calories/calorie-needs-women.htm and see what they recommend, based on your Basal Metabolic Rate. It's really different for someone who takes heavy exercise versus someone who is sedentary, as well as someone your age versus an old broad like me.

Hope this helps.

Bev

What about soynut butter? Peanut butter (or peanuts in any form) kill me, but I'm fine with soynut butter. I have soynut butter and jelly sandwiches at least once a week and they always settle great! It is still a little high in fat, so you have to use it sparingly, but it has a lot of protein like most nuts.

Also, have you ever tried snacking on roasted soynuts? You can get them in various flavors, like honey roasted, and they're pretty yummy once you get over the fact that they're not peanuts.

Thanks for all of your time and advice everyone! I appreciate your help SO much. I'll look into soy nuts/nut butter and the protein powder and the soy cheese and kree's mac and cheese. Mac and cheese used to be my favorite food all time (other than potatoes)
Thanks loads!!!!!!
