How much soluble fiber should I be taking ? (m)

I'm a "D" and although I rarely have D anymore, I still go an awful lot and struggle with the urgency of going. I'm wondering if I take too much fiber. I start with about 4 fibercon in the morning and pop 2 at a time throughout the day (usually before meals). I know when I cut back, I got the D back but now wonder if there is such a thing as too much fiber which would make me go more. Honestly, I wish this could just be a non issue! (it's hard to remember when it was!...never thinking of where the next bathroom could be? ahhhh bliss!)

You should work up to 12-15 with whatever fiber supplement (or combinaions of SF) suits you. Too much fiber could give you D if you increase too quickly, but other than that it should stabilize you. Maybe you want to try a different supplement? Hang in there!

I'm also a D, and I used to take Fibercon as well. However, the amount of fiber in a Fibercon tablet isn't very much -- as I recall, only a half gram. So you're taking 6, yes? That's only 3 grams of fiber a day. Your ultimate goal is 12-15 grams a day. Switch to the powder; it's got twice as much fiber -- either Citrucel powder or Heather's Acacia. Citrucel gets thick and has a taste (EW), but the Acacia does not get thick and has no taste. Also, Heather's working on a shipping schedule for all of us who order it from her on a regular basis, so we never run out of it. It's great stuff; you can even sprinkle it on your cereal if you don't want to dissolve it in your tea.

Originally I switched from Fibercon to Citrucel, but the tablets, not the powder (which has twice as much fiber), then Heather realized I was on a low dosage and woke me up. So I started on the Acacia, but the same dosage as the Citrucel, then SLOWLY increased it. Now I'm up to 10 grams; I have 2 more to go.

Check out the thumb-tacked post from Heather up above about Acacia dosages.

I know it sounds odd that a D person would take MORE fiber, but for some reason it's not. I'm much better since I've increased it -- in fact, I very seldom have D anymore, just good, strong, healthy poops in the morning. I also take a probiotic -- Jarro -- but that's another story, like the story of the good old days when we didn't have to scout out public bathrooms! You're right -- that WAS bliss!

Good luck,
Bev

Everyone says you should ease up on the dosage of Fiber.. what is slow?? I am taking 2-3 Citrucel capsules a day, I feel no different and my C is no better. Its only been one week though. How fast do I increase? And at what rate (# if pills)
