Dina, remember, the author of that piece said only A drink of wine AFTER the big purge was done.

I couldn't find the article again, had to do a Google search again using the words colostomy candles, and it came right up. Good bathroom reading material, especially tonight. Good luck!, Patricia

Good luck dnatale and Patricia A.

I had my colonoscopy last Thursday and like everyone says; the prep is the worst. My last meal was around 4:00 Wednesday morning (worked the night shift) and didn't eat again until after the procedure Thursday afternoon. Unlike most people, though. I didn't remember passing gas although I'm sure I did or they would have kept me until I was able to.

As quick as I went to sleep, I woke up just as fast and didn't feel like I was drugged. I do remember waking up and telling my SO I was ready to go eat. He said they I had just got into recovery and according to the nurses had to wait about 45 minutes before I could leave and should eat light for the rest of the day. He said I said that I was trying to get up with the tubes still in my hand. (I WAS HUNGRY and a raw onion would have tasted good by that time)!

Anyway after I got out of there, we went and ate. I had grilled shrimp and rice. When I got home, I went shopping. It was only the next day when I found the discharge instructions between the seats in my car that said I should introduce food slowly, not drive and to lie down and take it easy for the rest of the day.

I asked him as my caregiver, why didn't he tell me about those things since I was apparently still drugged (but not enough to want to eat and shop) and he said, now get this: "Do you think I could have told YOU, as stubborn as YOU are, that you couldn't have anything solid to eat and you had to go home and rest?" What? Me stubborn? Wonder where he gets that form? I guess the cat is out of the bag now.

Hmm………….makes me wonder if he's marriage material. If he plays his cards right I'll probably give him another chance to prove himself!

It'll be over with before you know it.

Best of luck and don't do like I did; go home and rest.

Ok so here's the deal. I hope I never have to have one of those again (until I am 50!). The drink was horrible. It tasted like a thick Sprite with loads of salt. I drank 3 of the 4 Liters, i just couldn't get it all down. When I went to the hospital I ended up having an anxiety attack in the waiting room, which they told me was because I was so dehydrated and nervous. They gave me an IV of fluids to calm me down. I guess the demerol they gave me was "enough to kill an elephant", the nurse said I was her toughest patient all day! With that much drug in me I ended up getting very nauseous and stayed in recovery for almost 2 hours. I slept most of the day and was very out of it most of the day because the drugs wouldn't wear off.

I feel fine now. The results were very favourable, Thanks for all of your prayers. I have IBS but nothing else, he said everything looked great. I was told to just increase my fiber (I have now changed from Fibercon to Citracel) and to keep up with Heather's diet (which he praised).

All in All I hated the experience, but at least I am ok

Dina

Wow, what an experience you had! I'm so sorry, Dina. I guess I was just lucky, because my colonoscopy experience was so good. I hope I didn't give you false hopes.

So at least you know what you have and don't have. IBS, eh? Well, join the club! We're a pretty cool club actually, and we can help you here.

By the way, you said your GI likes Heather's diet? Oh, I think I like your GI! He said to increase your fiber. Good advice. Is the Citrucel that you're switching to the powder or the capsules? The powder has twice the fiber as the capsules, so you want to just start out with the same dosage you WERE on with the Fibercon, then SLOWWWWLY increase it. If your body is real sensitive, you'll want to do it over a period of several weeks. Check the "thumb-tacked" thread above from Heather about acacia dosages. It's taken me 3 months to increase my dosage up to the recommended level (my body is VERRRY sensitive).

So good news too, eh? To have found a good GI is VERY good news! Again, I'm sorry you suffered so. I know all about that anxiety; it's mean stuff. I'm real sorry you have IBS, but I'm glad you're with us, Girlfriend, where you can get some great help and SUPER support.

Bev

I am having a colonoscopy on Monday. My doctor gave me some pills to take-instead of the drink. Has anyone had these? If not, I am wondering why. It seems so much easier.

It is easier! I told my doc that they had better find an easier way to do this by the time I am 50

Good Luck
Dina
