Wish me luck ! After looking at that gallon jug I have to drink in 1-2 hours... I almost croaked! I hear the prep is the worst and the test is a breeze. I just hope they don't find anything.

Dina, you heard right. Today's the worst part -- with that gallon jug and the resulting stay in the bathroom! Just don't make any plans for today.
You'll be amazed at how quickly the procedure is over with. You go in, they knock you out, you wake up, pass gas (yeah, they won't let you go until you do! And they have to HEAR you!), then you're outta there! You'll be floating on a cloud of drugs -- the best you've ever had -- and you'll be feeling GREAT!
Good luck -- and keep us posted.
Bev

How embarressing! Its bad enough you ass is hanging out, then they make you pass gas! Ahhhh! I just want to get it over with. I have read lots of postings about what colonoscopies have found (precancerious cells, cysts, etc) and I am very afraid of that. I am just crossing my fingers that all goes well.

I believe they cut out the polyps (if they find any) right then and there. But you really DO want to find out what's going on in there. If looked at that way, I think it won't be quite as scary for you. I know that it helped me.
Also, after my procedure, when I woke up, I was so drugged that I barely remember passing gas, it just happened naturally and they were nearby so they heard me -- but I wasn't on the table. And, frankly, I didn't care; I was feeling GOOOOOOD.
I'll cross my fingers for you too -- but something tells me it won't be necessary. You'll do fine (and you'll love those drugs!). Just don't end up hugging everyone there and kissing your GI -- like I did! EW.

I had my first colonoscopy about a month ago and had the same kind of anxiety. The prep is much worse than the procedure. Your so exhausted after the day of prep that your almost looking forward to the test just so you can go back to eating solid food again and actually have a good nights sleep without worrying about messing yourself.
As far as the passing gas part. Your so out of it that you won't even know that your farting. No smell comes out either it's just air being released. I did find that after the drugs wore off I had some discomfort and cramping. They'll explain all of that to you when your ready to leave recovery.
Hope everything goes well.

I'm also having a colonoscopy tomorrow -- I strongly recommend you read the book excerpt on this site on Colonoscopy Prep. Much more humane & relevant than all of those medical fact pieces. I read it the other day, and will refer to it often tonight. Had a hard time finding it again, though, finally Google'd it using the words "colonoscopy" and "Candles." The author suggests sented candles, bath, and a drink of wine before bed. I believe it is on this forum under "Message Boards" and then "Research Library." A nice and almost funny addition to an unpleasant procedure, in plain English.
I'm taking my regular daily medication 2-3 hours before starting the Colyte-drinking marathon, and will now go to replenish potassium or whatever with Gatorade. (This is not my first Colonoscopy BTW. ) Best of luck to you!
