It's 4:45 am and I was just woken up with horrible cramps and then a really bad case of D. Urgent, painful, watery with some mucus you name it, then another bout 10 minutes later. My stomach is still really sore. By far the worst case of D I've had in a long time.

I'm feeling really discouraged right now cause I was doing so much better. The last time I felt remotely this bad it was because I cheated and had some Lindor chocolate, but that was a pretty instant reaction and was fine after I got it out of my system. I can't figure out what would have triggered this.

Yesterday for breakfast I had some of my prodiem fiber with a small bowl of puffed rice ceral and soy milk. then for a snack I had 6 plain with a bit of salt rice cakes, apple sauce and apple juice. For a late lunch I had a sweet onion chicken terriaki sub from Subway with some fiber and apple juice. dinner time snack I had a fruit bar and a can of V8 and then when I got home at 10pm I had a bowl of 'Thai kitchen' garlic and vegetable rice noodle soup. Then right before I went to bed cause I have a cold I took some tylenol cold and flu.

I have eaten everything before. Before I was going gluten free, but over the past few weeks would have subway subs for dinner after a long day at work. They hadn't bothered me before. as far as I know, there's no dairy or red meat in anything I ate.

ARRRRGGGGHHH, This is so G d*mned frustrating!!!! and discouraging at the same time. I think I need a hug.

So sorry you had such a horrible attack. I know only too well how awful they truly are. The only things that I can think of that would cause problems are the apple juice, the V8 and the tylenol cold. The apple juice and V8 are highly acidic and will give me D every time. I avoid them like the plague. Try cranberry juice instead (make sure it's not a cocktail - it usually has apple juice).
The tylenol cold I'm guessing can cause upsets because they've bothered me before too. I have no idea why, but some medications will cause upsets.
So, dust yourself off and take a deep breath. Be kind to your tummy today. Stick to soluble fiber (I love the "what to eat when you can't eat anything" section of Heather's Eating Guidelines) and drink plenty of peppermint tea.
Hope you feel better soon.

I am so sorry to hear of your attack! The ones that wake you up are the WORST!! Apple juice always does a number on me as well. But, the terryiaki sandwich at Subway made me sick too! I can eat subway as long as it is just chicken breast with low fat mayo or turkey breast. But...you said you have eaten all this stuff before with no problem. Maybe it was the medicine. I really don't know, just wanted to tell you I hope you feel better. I am sending hugs your way! Take it easy today!

Hi,

Sorry you are having a bad day. Do you think anything you ate or the cold med could have sorbitol in it? That's a big trigger and sometimes we don't realize it is in stuff.
Did you possibly have wheat bread with your subway? Apple juice would give my stomach fits but if you had that before and it didn't bother you that's probable not it. Don't know what else. Maybe try to stay on bread & potatoes today and drink water.

Feel better soon

Jamie, I'm sorry you're feeling so crappy! I know how discouraging it is to be doing well and then have this hit you without knowing why. I also question the sub. I don't eat subs too often because sometimes I'm fine with them and other times they bother me. I don't know if it's the amount of mayo (which I try to scrape off!) or if there's dairy in the bun. Also, did you have lots of lettuce and tomatoes on your sub? Do they ever bother you? Just some thoughts. I hope you feel better soon!

hey, Jamie.

sorry you're feeling so...er...crappy.

i don't really know what to say, because i know you said you've had all that stuff before. i know i couldn't do all that fruit and i've not had Tylenol cold & flu in a long time. maybe it was just all that stuff together that built up to an attack?

feel better ASAP, Jamie. hope you don't have to fly today.

Oh Jamie I'm so sorry your not feeling well My 1st thought would be the apple juice and maybe the lettuce in the sub. And then the cold med.... here are the ingrediants in Tylenol

Hope you feel better soon....

You got it, FlyBoy! {{{{{{BIG HUG}}}}}}

I don't know what's in the Subway samiches, but are you sure the turkey was white meat, not dark? And what about 'Thai kitchen' garlic and vegetable rice noodle soup? Never heard of it, have no idea about the fat content. I know that Campbell's chicken noodle soup contains chicken fat (EW), a big trigger for me!

I realize you've had these before, but could it be that you were just lucky before? It's like my Oriental cabbage salad. I had it once, no problem. Had it again, no problem. (I was lucky.) Then I had it a third time -- BIG mistake! I pushed my luck. BIG D, oh yeah (you answered my post in The Living Room). I just think our bodies will take a little pushing, but not much, and maybe, just maybe, you pushed yours a little too far, Jamie.

I so relate to your frustration and anger. After I got over the panic attack, I got frustrated and angry too. It's so not fair that we have to suffer with this, especially when the only help we get for it is from each other. On the other hand, consider just that -- we DO get help from each other. That's a Godsend. And the frustration is justified; after all, we're eating such healthy food -- but isn't that really what we would want to do anyway, even if we didn't have IBS? (Okay, except for the occasional Jack....)

Try not to focus on this recent attack, and instead focus on how long you've gone without one. You ARE getting better. So you had one step back, it's no biggie, because you're making many steps forward. That's really what's most important, isn't it?

I also think there's a lot going on with you right now. You're questioning your career, your life goals, what you want to do with yourself -- these are all biggies, and I'm just wondering if your gut is taking it too much to heart, perhaps more so than you realize.

You're doing Michael's program, aren't you? Be patient, because I believe he'll help you.

Feel better soon, FlyBoy. By the way, Jamie, you're a very huggable guy, you cutie-pie you!

Bev
