it is for both.. something about equalizing the water in your bowels which is what causes diarrhea, and constipation. I have ibs-d and it def works for me most of the time.

Since I started using Equalactin, I am now able to go out to dinner and not be afraid of having an attack. It usually takes me a few hours to know if I am going to suffer or not. With E, I dont even worry about it.

Since I have been using it, I have been out for Mexican (my fav) 5-6 times with no problem. yayyyyy.

Bev brought it up on the board and I tried it, no regrets. Thanks again Bev!!!

it's OTC. it's only soluble fiber and it is like a miracle!

you can get it at some drugstores and some grocery stores, and just as a tip, when you try it and like it if you want a price break, try drugstore.com. great price and really fast shipping.

I have a question about Equalactin also: since it appears to me that some people take it 'on the go' such as before going out to dinner, on the road, etc. do you all take it with water? I just bought my first box the other day and if I'm on my way out the door to have dinner, I'll take two if I don't remember to take my fiber. I wait until I get to the restaurant and try to drink a large glass of water before my meal. Is that too long to go without drinking or should I try to drink something as soon as I take it?

I wanted to believe in Equalactin as a miracle, but found that I developed a belly ache. Of course, I'm not sure if it was related, but I stopped taking it. I felt no difference in symptoms. Am I the only one who felt nothing?

Hey Jules,
I'm canadian too and tried to find equalactin but didn't have any luck. Instead I found Prodiem, which has the same ingredient, calcium polycarbil. Here's the link: http://www.prodiem.ca/
Be careful when you buy it, cause the company also makes some different products with different ingredients which aren't so great for us IBS'ers.
So far, the Prodiem has worked great as an extra measure when I'm feeling like my regular fiber supplement isn't doing enough.
