Hey again peoples!
I wish I could hang around here more and not seem to only show up with my own problems, but I try. I'll try harder, (I know, I worry about that too much)

Anyway, last night I had a very awful D attack. Several, actually. Possibly the worst, if not moreso, than my "Easter Turkey" attack some of you helped with. I was so scared. I almost cried. I was power-praying (which has been a gigantic help). I was worried I would pass out from the burning and the pain-which I've never done. I dont know if it was the worst attack ever, but its surely one of them. It was really upsetting because I've had a fairly stable time for almost a month. I have a few minor attacks and I think once or twice I had a restless night that made me not feel so good-but those were fairly mild painwise. This was awful. I fear its still there-Im still really sore "down there" and am scared it'll hit me again at work.
I havent started my CDs yet because time has been inconsistent and I heard you should have a set time to do them. But after last night, I really want to avoid something like this ever again.

Ok, so my warning is on the only thing I ate that was new. It was the Kraft instant pasta salad. Its the kind where you add your own dressing. So I added this new extra virgin olive oil dressing that was uberlow in fat compared to the other stuff AND had no HFCS.
Has anyone else had a problem with either of these? If not, be careful if you do. Everything else I had all day was normal foods (I had leftover spaghetti for lunch, but I sprinkled sugar on the sauce the previous night and it didnt bother me at all. Dinner was Salmon patties and those have been a diet part since I started, so I know those are ok)
Just wanted to tell you guys. I'd hate for anyone else to have an attack like I did.

Also, I bought Heather's peppermint caps and take them at least once a day for stability. My question is: the directions say take one up to three times a day. But if I have a bad attack, is it ok to take two of them at that time? They seem to work well for daily function, so I wonder if a bad attack can be halted with two of them.

I hope you are all doing well. Looks like its broth for lunch again and rice for dinner(Which I do for any bad attack-give myself at least a day of easy foods), but I hope I dont have to miss work.

I wouldn't take 2 caps at a time b/c I noticed I can sometime taste the peppermint caps when I take just one so I know they are powerful! Try peppermint tea instead of 2 pills at once and the tea might also make you feel better just because it's very warm and soothing to the intestine.

Sometimes I eat like an angel (no cheating) and I will end up with an attack anyway with no real explanation. Could be something I ate a day or 2 ago catching up with me. But believe me I've been there! And the pain from that kind of an attack is awful, sometimes Prep H helps and using those wipes all the time.

That's all I can think of right now. Hope you are recovering okay

Joseph, have you tried Immodium? That stuff really helped to stabilise me and it takes the edge of the d-attacks at the very least. Also, I find co-codamol (paracetamol and codeine) helps with the pain. And nothing helps me with the cramps as much as a heating pad.

What else was in the pasta salad? I'm guessing that'd be the culprit...

Try the CDs. Sounds like you could really do with some help!

Hi Debby!
Ive got some of those wipes, which helped some after the attack had subsided. I wish I could track down the culprit. Even thinking back, Ive been pretty cautious. I've been trying for the last four months or so, but still cant eat much outside of the staples and some safer low-fat foods.

Thank you for your well wishes. I'll aviod two caps then. (I drank 3 cups of tea last night, too, and that helped some as well)

I did take one Immodium and that helped some. I think I'll take another half before work just to help and add a Equalactin later on before lunch. The problem I get into is that once an attack starts like that..I just have to ride it out. Especially the ones that just keep going every few minutes. The Immodium helps calm my system., but it takes a little time to act.

I also have my trusty heating pad on almost every night to keep my stomach calm. That does help, but again, bad attacks are tough to control.

I think there was maybe a hidden trigger in either the mix or the dressing. There was no MSG, but it could be some type of seasoning that just made my system go crazy. I'm avoiding them both for now. And Im gonna take a day of staples and some meds so my guts can get back to normal.

Thanks for the tips.

How much fibre are on on atm? Maybe you need to increase your dose? Do you drink herbal teas to help with attacks?

Have you tried nappy rash cream for the soreness?

Nappy rash cream? Nope. I have used Desetin cream before (from a hemmoroid attack last summer-and occasional ones now ) but not that. Is it similar? Where can I find it?

Currently Im taking a half Tbs of Benefiber with my peppermint tea in the morning and a Tsp of acacia mid-day(it still seems to be strong to my guts, so I'm low on dosing it). I was taking a full TBS a day of Benefiber. Should I up my acaicia even if it bothers me?
And beyond the tea and caps(and the fiber), Im not on any other supplements regularly.

You can find nappy rash cream with the baby stuff in shops - it's for sore bottoms so very suitable for IBS-Ders!

Up the Acacia SLOWLY. But fyi, 1 tsp is not a lot at all. Try upping it gradually. Maybe have 1tsp twice a day? If you spread it out through the day, it'll be easier on your system.

Ok...I'll try to add another tsp at night and see how that helps. I know Im taking a little less than before which migth factor a bit into my newest attack.

Thank you again for your help.

Oh, goodness, Joseph, how awful for you! My heart goes out to you. Yeah, broth and rice for a day or two is my prescription, too, when things empty out completely (if you know what I mean!!)

I know you're trying to figure out the cause and it certainly seems like it must have been the pasta salad or dressing, BUT...! Your mention of the spaghetti caught my eye. One of my worst attacks was when I ate spaghetti with tomato sauce more than once in a week. We had made my mom's sauce recipe which is awesome and had it for dinner one night. I was fine. Then I had some of it leftover for lunch two days later. I was fine. Then I couldn't bear to throw out the last of it, so I finished it off. BIG mistake. I was in and out of the bathroom all night.

So I have a new rule -- tomato sauce or other tomato stuff NO MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK!

It might not have been the trigger for you, but you never know. Just thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

Hope you feel better soon!
