Will IBS Meds Work Even If You Don't Have IBS?

This might be a really weird question but I was wondering....

if you don't have IBS...will antispasmodics still work??

Here's my situation:

I have been diagnosed with IBS for a few years now (although I believe I've had it since I was a child) and I've had all the tests done to rule out everything EXCEPT a colonoscopy...I'm still waiting for my appointment.

In the the meantime I was prescribed an antispasmodic called Modulon....and it seems to be working amazing!! I have not felt this good for years!!

So if the antispasmodic is taking away my stomach pain and the acacia is helping me have regular BM's then that must mean I do in fact have IBS right??

Cuz if it was something else the meds wouldn't help it right??

I was just curious about this...any input is much appreciated!!

Hope everyone's having a great tummy day!!

Actually, the anti-spasmatic drugs would help for any problem where you were having stomach spasms. Sorry to tell you, but you still need to have the colonoscopy just to rule out that it's not anything else more serious. Other conditions can cause stomach spasms too.

On a side question (not to hijak your thread ), anyone know if the anti-spasmatic drugs help with menstrual cramping?

I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but I am on anti-spasmodics and have really terrible menstrual cramps right at this very minute, so I don't think the meds are doing anything... I am trying to take more peppermint capsules to see if they'll help, I will let you know if I get any results!

Ooh thanks. I was just curious if the anti-spasmatic drugs were just for your stomach, or could help with other ailments. Never tried taking mine during my period, so I guess I will have to try next time.

Hmmm....well thanks for the info!!

I am definately still going for the colonoscopy just to be sure....but I was hoping that maybe the meds working would give me some hope that it's only IBS I have and nothing more serious.

Thanks again!!
