Hi Everyone,
How are you? I hope you are great! I have a question, although it may turn into more than one question and it may not be organized so well, so you might not really know what I"m asking until the end..lol
I have been following the IBS diet but right now I have a cold which makes it kind of difficult b/c:
a.)I have an extremely sore throat. I have been drinking some tea, which is nice. My mom made me some mango-papaya-banana popsicles, which are almost all gone. NOrmally I can't tolerate cold things, but it goes down easily and numbs my throat and cools me down. OK...the point is...the basis of the IBS diet is hard for me to eat right now (bread and stuff is kinda hard to swallow with a sore throat)
b.)I tried having some soup last night to dip my bread in so it would be soggy and easier to swallow....but that didn't work to well b/c I have an upset (I almost throw up each time i swallow)stomach b/c of all of the stuff from my nose dripping down my throat into my stomach (at least that's my guess )
c.)Usually i'll try to cook something for myself but I have like no energy right now (it took me about an hour and a half to convince myself to get out of bed and come to the computer to ask my question(s))
Does anyone have any advice on what to eat. I mean I'm not terribly hungry at all, but I have to take other medicines anyhow...and I know that just sucking on popsicles all day probably isn't the best thing. But my mom bought some papaya juice. Can I just freeze that into popsicles (i'm too energyless to do the homemade thing right now..lol).
Thanks so much! HOpefully something I just wrote made sense. If you have any remedies for sore throats feel free to throw those in there, as well! Thank you and I hope you are having a good day!

Ooh I know exactly how you're feeling right now! I've got bad allergies and my new medicine decided this weekend to stop working for some weird reason so I'm stuck with a sore throat, itchy eyes, and running nose for another month or so.

I've been living off of chicken broth, rice, and Jamba Juice smoothies (although my tummy is usually upset after the smoothies, but it soothes my throat so it's worth it sometimes!).

Maybe try some saltine crackers with your soup? That will make them really soggy and saltine crackers are good for upset stomachs!

Not sure about the papaya juice, but can't imagine any reason why it wouldn't work!

Maybe someone else will have some more ideas. Hope you feel better!

I usually do ok with Campbells chicken and rice or stars soup, the double noodle is really good also. Can you do an english muffin just very lightly toasted with a little jelly to soften it?? Can you tloerate oatmeal, put a little rice/soy milk in it to make it creamier. Its so hard to eat right when your sick! Hang in there!

Hey, TB. sorry you're still feeling ill...

i always make Jell-o when i'm sick. it's really slippery so a scratchy sore throat doesn't mind it, and it's not a trigger for the IBS (for me, at least).

could you tolerate some rice pudding??? maybe someone can make you some?

how about some scrambled egg whites (scrambled egg, but "safe") or an egg white omelet? (sometimes i'm not up for this 'til the cold is leaving and i'm starting to feel a little better...)

GET WELL SOON!

Tara,

Sorry you are so miserable. I get that gunk stuff all the time too because of allergies and it does make you nauseated. I find that tea really helps. Try making ginger tea. Just get some ginger root from the store and grate it into hot water and let it steep. It helps your immune system and really helps settle your tummy from the gunk. Lots of liquids will help thin out the gunk too. Feel better soon.

Soup is my comfort food. It also slides down very easily, and is very nutritious. Mom can heat up some chicken stock (preferrably home made) and toss in some egg-less noodles and a little finely chopped carrots and celery, maybe some onion, and even a little leftover cooked chicken breast, if available.

Don't forget you need some soy "ice cream" too! Ask Mom to stop by the health food store for you and pick up some Soy Dream Mocha Fudge. Mmmmmmmmmm......

Get better soon!

Bev

Well I'm feeling rough, my thing now is a cup of soy milk (preferably warm for me, but maybe your poor throat would prefer cold?) with a dose of Acacia stirred into it. Settles my tummy right down.

And for colds...hot lemon drinks with lots of honey in them to sooth the throat! Ginger tea and honey would probably work a treat!
