As a result of a recent barium enema It showed what the doctor referred as some bowel redundancy with diverticulous and probably at least one and possibly two small polyps.
The diverticulous I was aware of from a previous test a few years ago but can someone explain the term bowel redundancy. In event I have to wait now for a colonoscopy.

Hey Ken,
I looked that up, but didn't find it in any of my textbooks, if it's not too busy tomorrow at work, I'll see if I can pick the brain of one of the radiologists and see if I can get you an answer.

Since I have had diverticulosis for some time I suspect it is an area that may be a bit constricted. He did say that muscles in that area could be weaker. Also suspected polyps (2) are in same area.
My concern is of course cancer but he states highly unlikely. But he is having surgeon rather than specialist do colonoscopy. When I asked why a surgeon he stated I would have to wait longer for a G.I.specialist as we have too few in area and this surgeon does colonoscopys all the time to speed up process. There is probably a better term for it then what he is using.
Thanks for reply.

Some day I will learn to check the spelling on the subject line as well as the post.

I did check through Google but was getting some very technical information. However I use a site run by volunteers called AllExperts.com. They have experts on all matters including health.
I wrote to a doctor there this morning that I have used many times and got an answer. Colon or bowel redundancy simply means that the bowel is a bit longer than normal with probably an extra turn. Important thing he states that other than the extra length it has no clinical importance.
That site if you are interested is;
http://www.allexperts.com
Thee is no registration or costs and I've used it for questions on prescriptions, computers and a number of things. .

Thanks for the site; I'll check it out. I found the sites on google were very high tech as well. Thought I would have to use a dictionary. Your bowel is a bit longer than norm? On one of my many bariums I remember the radiologist mentioning that my instestine was a little long than norm; he said I can't believe all this intestine fits into your wee body." I wasn't sure to be a bit disturbed or be proud that it fit into my body!! Take care Sue

Thanks.
He also mentioned and I forgot to add that it may make the colonoscopy a bit more difficult with the extra length and turns but not to worry. More important that if there are polyps that they come out.
