Is it possible IBS strikes more Caucasians than people from other races? I wonder whether certain races are less prone because I don't think I've ever seen a non-white person on this message board.

I know, for example, lactose intolerance is more prevalent among certain races so I wonder if this is true for IBS too.

Has anyone given any thought to this? I guess I could be way out in left field on this hypothesis.

This is an interesting question actually.

I'd be interested in finding out what the statistics are on this.

i'm hispanic if that helps out

so, i'm not sure it only hits caucasian people. i mean, i'm more fair skinned than most of the caucasians I know, so i'm not sure it makes a difference.

but you never know....like sycle(sp?) cell anemia mainly hits black people and rarely white people or hispanics, but i think that is genetic...is there proof that ibs is genetic? i just confused myself a bit i think

i don't know any black folks with it, but i do know a couple of asian girls... i believe one is japanese and the other philipino.

*yeah, as soon as i saw this thread i thought of sicle cell. i think i'd take IBS over sicle cell... as depressing and uncomfortable as IBS is, from what i hear sicle cell is one of the most painful diseases.

I know more caucasions that admit they have it. I do know a african american who has it and several hispanic women who do too. Even my own non related Aunt who is Japenese and Hawaiian has it. SOOO I honestly think that it shows no race and is a genetic thing and it is like cancer(not literally) But is shows no gender or race when it hits.
