Hey guys, man it feels like I haven't been on for a while. The weather was too pretty this weekend to be inside!

I was wondering about fiber supplements and bloating. I rarely have attacks anymore, but I still can't seem to get rid of this bloating.

Do any of you notice that once you stayed on the fiber supplements the bloating gradually decreased? I started on fiber a while ago but stopped b/c I felt more bloated while taking it. And I started out very low.

I just need some advice with this darn bloating!

Thanks!!

Hi Bethany,

Yes, I have bloating all the time -- and I was blaming the fiber too. But I just recently noticed that the bloating seems to be worse for me when I eat something, and it doesn't matter what -- the bloat has everything to do with my tummy trying to digest the food. Ditto with the gas.

Lately, I've been getting a lot more exercise, and that really seems to get rid of the bloating, believe it or not. I don't understand why, but it is working -- maybe because it's burning off the food that causes the bloat, I don't know....

I wouldn't stop the fiber if I were you. In fact, I'd try to slowwwwly increase it. You really need that fiber.

Bev

I got more bloated when I first started taking fibre supplements but that went away after a while and now you couldn't get me off them! Stick at it and they'll REALLY help.

i agree with Linz. i pushed through with the fiber supplement and sucked down fennel tea like there was no tomorrow, and that got me through the new fiber (and each time i upped the dose). now, i can't remember the last time i was bloaty.... even when i cheat (which i never do... ) i don't get bloaty!

If your fiber supplement has psyllium, it is my understanding that that could be contributing to the bloating.

Bev - I totally agree with you. Many days I think my body just doesn't like any food! By the way I am D as well. But not severe, just "soft". I could almost be A, but get the C rarely.

I can tolerate wheat and whole wheat products, and have been trying to get my fiber through eating those types of foods. I eat whole wheat breads and pastas and am fine. When I tried just eating the sourdough and french breads, I felt more bloated and gassy.

I'm just wondering, since I am eating the whole wheat foods do I need to use a fiber supplement as well.

Do you think if I did do both the wheat products and fiber supp, over time it would help with the bloating?

thanks!
