Lentil soup - how to make it safe?

I did a search on this but not finding this question. If there is already a post, please point me to it. :-)

Before I 'discovered' the world of IBS, I used to eat a lentil and black bean soup for lunch often. And, I'd always have gas and bloating the same day (duh!).

I've been on the IBS diet for about 3 weeks now and am slowly trying my old foods to see what I can tolerate. I'd love to get the benefits of lentil or bean soup but I am, of course, wary, now that I'm finally stable.

I'm wondering if running it through the blender after it comes from the can, (Progresso), will make it more tolerable? Does that do anything more than the cooking did when the soup was created?

Thanks!
Rosey

I think the best thing would be to take some Beano before eating it. I love lentil soup too!

Any other ingredients in that soup, whey, msg? I have so many problems with soup and almost everything has whey or MSG in it. If the whey is "whey" down on the list sometimes I can tolerate it. One brand I found I can eat is Wolfgang Pucks "Country Vegetable". Potatoes, carrots, celery, peas, tomatoes, green beans and I think some whey or MSG way down on the list. I had to eat just a bit at first, then more and more with beano but finally I can eat a whole can of it without problems and am able to poop the next day for a change. So far, this is the only way I can get insoluables into my diet but it works. Want to try the same adding a bit at a time with some green beans & other insoluables. Can't the soup and spice package people make anything without MSG & whey? They're killin' us with this junk.

Here's my recipe: web page

I've never tried canned, but I would suggest checking the ingredients to see what triggers might be in there. Also, be sure to take some Beano; it's great stuff, and it'll help with the inevitable gas.

I totally agree! WHY do they DO this???

One day I was frolicking along through the produce section, minding my own business and innocently adding fruits and veggies to my cart, when I spied a new display with nice packages of nice salad croutons with nice decorations like almonds and nice flavorings such as honey and garlic. OH YUM!!!! I think to myself, and I innocently take it home and put it on my romaine and eat it up.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKK!!!
MSG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone with the sense that God gave gravel would not add MSG to toast and roasted almonds intended for a salad!!!!

Assuming it's not some other ingredient in the soup that bothers you, and it's just a bean/gas problem, you can try pineapple too. Maybe not for EVERYONE, but for most people, if you eat a big piece of fresh pineapple with the meal, you will have no trouble with gas. I've heard canned and frozen pineapple don't work, but I know the fresh does work.
