Citrucel Question????

Hi Everyone!

I have a question. As of today, I quit taking my herbal pills (Super Cleanse) from GNC. Instead, I am substituting it with Citrucel.
Question: Should I start out taking 1 tsp. a day or 1 tsp. TWICE a day?? Is only one not enough?

Also....I got the "flavorless" kind, which really still has a taste in water. Is there anything else I could put it in besides water? I don't drink soda or milk (obviously) and I think it would be disgusting in soy milk! (ewww).

I've heard of people putting it in applesauce, but wouldn't this be extremely thick, or can you not even taste it?

Someone please give me some advice!!
thanks!!

good-morning,
this website has some information on soluble supplements like citrucel. you should check it out, its quite informative. for me, i started citrucel not too long ago. i started with 1/2 tsp. i am gradually going to increase it. i take it with a big glass of water, but i also snack on something too. so my tummy will be full, like a cup of apple sauce, pretzels, banana, or bagel (1 of those items). i'm not sure what kind i have, but i just chug it down with water. i haven't tried to drink or eat it with anything else.

Good morning Melissa,

If you are starting something new, I would start very slowly. Citrucel is not supposed to give you as much gas and bloat as other fiber, but start at 1 tsp. and after a while slowly increase your dosage.

How about adding it to your tea? I use benefiber and add it to my tea in the morning.

Good luck

Barbara

Is Super Cleanse a soluble fiber supplement? How much fiber does it have? How much were you taking? If switching from that to the Citrucel is the same amount of fiber, then you're good to go. 1 teaspoon isn't very much, but it's a good start. You don't want to start off with too much at first or you'll have problems.

I used to take the Citrucel capsules, which are (I believe) half the dosage of the powder. When I switched to the acacia, I started off at 1 teaspoon twice a day, which was really double the dosage I was taking with the Citrucel capsules. I did okay until I started increasing that dosage too soon.

Miss Mags is our Citrucel Queen, so I've directed this post to her, because she'll have more answers for you. Since I never took the Citrucel powder, I wasn't aware it had a taste. EW. The Acacia has no taste, thankfully. Why not try it in a nice flavorful tea that will overpower the taste of the Citrucel? That's what I'd do, maybe a nice Green decaf tea (it tastes GOOOD) or something powerful like Constant Comment (you could use that stuff for potpourri!). Heather's incredible peppermint would be an excellent choice too.

Mags will help you some more, I'm sure.

Oh my gosh! If you guys are only taking 1/2 tsp. of Citrucel, then I must be OD'ing on this stuff. I sure thought you had to take a lot more of it---for it to be effective. I use at least 1 of those big scoops that come with it---sometimes even 2--- 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Is there harm in using too much of this? (I don't think it's hurting anything but my pocketbook!)

Thanks for all the comments!

Bevrs, to answer some of your questions:
No, Super Cleanse are these herbal pills that don't really have much fiber in them, more like weird things like Marshmallow root, orange bark, things like that. I don't think it counts as a fiber supplement, that's why I was curious.
Also, I really hate tea...I know I should drink it, but after I bought the peppermint tea, I just could barely choke it down, and I tried many times.

I am one of those people that bloats EXTREMELY easily, so I wanted to be safe by just taking 1 tsp. I just went to the OBGYN concerning my trying to have a baby, and she said that I could continue to take Bentyl (dicyclomine)!! I said, "Thank you , God!!" That makes me extremely relieved! Now I know that I will actually be able to have BMs throughout my pregnancy.

Michele, my doc also gave me some pre-natal vitamins called Citracal. They are supposed to have a mild laxative in them to help you go to the bathroom and become less constipated during pregnancy. I really hope it works for me. I couldn't remember if you were D or C, but if you are C like me, then these could be a good thing. I justed started taking them as of yesterday!

Talk to you guys later!

hello,
oh i'm sorry i made you worry. i'm the one who uses 1/2 tsp. i just started and i plan to to increase it. i used to take 1 tsp of metamucil but that doesn't work for me anymore, so i started on citrucel just last week. i'm sure you are doing fine. everyone is different in what they take, eat, etc. i read in the book that i can take it in the morning and after dinner. and the fibercon tablets before meals. i just signed on to the boards last week so i'm new at all of this and i want to gradually increase the fiber intake to my body. have a good day:)

Hi Mags,
How much Citrucel do you take? I noticed that each serving has 2 g of fiber- to you take 7 servings to get 15 per day? Or do you find you need less than other supplements? Thanks for sharing!

I take Citrucel Clear-Mix, 2 T 2x a day. 1 scoop = 2 grams of fiber, and each scoop is a heaping tablespoon, so I guesstimated that 2 T = about 3 grams of fiber, so I take about 6 grams per day - and that's the amount that works for me. I usually mix it in a big glass of water. It has a slight lemony flavor to it. But, just the other day I started mixing it in cranberry juice and it tasted fine. I make mine in pint glasses. (so you can get the water to powder ratio there)

Definitely do not try it in hot tea - iced herbal or decaf tea would probably work great. I don't think you're supposed to use it in hot or carbonated beverages. It would probably give the decaf iced tea a slight lemon flavor.

Whew! I hope I covered everything and that made sense!

No, that's a GOOD thing! It sounds like everyone else is just starting off, and it's often best to do that slowly to avoid excess gas and bloating. But we all want to aim to get as much fiber as you're getting... good for you!
