Hi,
I am new to this board, I posted for the first time about a week ago. I have been so addicted to this board, there is so much helpful info.....I keep reading over and over that a colonoscopy is sooo important. I work for a temp. agency right now and I don't have the best of insurance. I did look up today what my health insurance will cover, and it has listed under digestive system- Colostomy- and they will cover up to 1,200 dollars.
Is this the same as colonoscopy, and is this enough to cover the procedure? If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it.
thanks, Debbie

Hi Deb1,
I colonoscopy is very important to rule out any other problems other than IBS. A colostomy is NOT the same as a colonoscopy. A colostomy is a surgical procedure and a colonoscopy is a diagnostic test. The cost is generally between $1,000 - $2,000 I guess depending on the geographic area.
Hope this helps.
Barbara

Thanks for the clarification. That is too bad, because I don't think my insurance will cover a colonoscopy That is really frustrating! I am going to call and make sure though. Thanks again
