Hi FutureDoc,

My pain can be all over the abdominal area, but concentrates on the lower right hand side and occasionally over the belly button. Those are the days that I look like a pregnant playtpus!

I know exactly what you mean about the barbed wire and the fire! I have joked to my family that I feel like I have a little devil in there that runs around and vandalizes my insides! He'll jump on my ovaries, twist my intestines and sometimes he'll poke me really hard with his pitchfork! I might need an exorcist instead of a GI! It's sooooooooo incredibly nice to hear that you have experienced the same thing. My doctor makes me feel like a weirdo hypochondriac sometimes. Hopefully this diet will help me as its helped you! I want amateur night in my belly!

I get a really bad pain in my very, very lower abdomen on the right side. I get it usually if I am having a D attack, and then it sticks around for a while (anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 days) after. It hurts a lot, but I won't take any painkillers for fear of that making the D worse (I dunno if that happens, sometimes I think I just make stuff up...). Heating pads and herbal teas don't help when I get that pain, it just stays 'til it wants to go away.
The other pain I get is an inch or so to the right of my belly button. I also get what I think of as 'full cramps' where I feel like everything from my stomach to my lower abdomen just aches and cramps up. The kind where you wrap your arms around yourself and rock on your feet like a crazy person. Sometimes it's bearable, other times I end up in the fetal position, whimpering.
I've been on Acadia since January and haven't noticed any improvement, but so many people have that I will carry on!
Hope this helps, FutureDoc... And I too hope you become a GI so you can help us all!!

Hi!
If I were you I would have the doctor do an ultrasound. When I was in my 20's I had terrible pains especially during the menstrual cycle. The doctor made up every excuse mostly inflamed tubes and even in my head. He had me go for every test other kind of test as I started bleeding from both ends. While having my kidney's checked they saw a large shadow in the picture with the kidneys and did an ultrasound right there on the spot. I ended up having to have a hysterctomy at age 34 and by the doctor not checking the endometrios had grown onto my small bowel and intestines. My bowel ended up torn during surgery and I had to have 3 inches of intestines taken out. The surgeon also told me that I had over 15 lbs. of tumors, cysts etc. and there was no way this doctor would not be able to tell I had had this problem. That is not to say that is your problem. It's to let you know it's better to have it checked just for your own piece of mind. As far as the IBS mine is mostly behind the naval and through the intestinal area. Please have it checked as today they can do wonders either by meds or by a laporoscopy.
Best Wishes To You!
Pat

I only get sharp stabbing pains when I'm havung D. I am a C person and take miralax everyday. Usually several times a week I get a bad bout of D, usually in the am after breakfast. I will have crampy pains, than STABBING pains and D. These pains last anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, than I usually feel better, just kinda sore.

When I get what I consider an "ATTACK", it usually starts with being short of breath, think just ran a few miles and cant catch your breath! I get really bloated (more so than my every day kinda bloat), think can't see your feet! It quickly progresses into an all over my abdomen pain, not really sharp, think more like a really big elephant sitting on your tummy! The pressure pain is so bad, my panties feel too tight, forget about wearing regular pants and don't even think about putting a bra on! This "just kill me now and get it over with" feeling can last days to over a week. Than it usually takes another week before I really feel ok again. When it gets that bad, I get out the Vicodin or Xanax because a lot of times it will trigger a panick attack-just to add a little more pain into my life! The heating pad is my best friend at this point, in fact my tummy is scarred with burns from sleeping with it.

I have been to more GI specialist than you can count on one hand, I have had ALL the tests done and then some-and they DRs tell my I'm perfectly healthy!

I have found a really sympathetic and nice internist, she's not a GI but has been much more helpful than any of the so called specialist! I had one of these really horrible attacks two weeks ago and went into a full blown panick, went to see her an my blood pressure was like 170/126! My blood pressure is usually a little on the low side, that got her attention! The Xanax is really good at getting things calmed down after an attack like that!

I forget who said they were afraid to take pain pills because she didn't want to get D? Most pain pills will actually cause C, so I wouldn't worry about that too much!
