Well I am very lucky to live in a big city like Orlando. We have great health food stores about 10 minutes away. I here all of you guys complaining about having to drive so far...YIKES I am so lucky! Anhow here is the dilema. Chamberlin's (my store) carries every kind of "ice cream" you all have mentioned on this board and more. They have Soy Dream quarts for $5.29, Soy delicious quarts and pints for $4.99/$3.29 and Tofutti pints for $2.99. I have only tried the tofutti cuties and therefore know I like the vanilla as well. However, tofutti doesn't make all those great flavors like chocolate peanut butter etc. So my question is which do you all prefer? Has anyone been able to compare? I hate to waste money on something I am not going to like. So all opinions welcomed. Is Soy Dream, Soy Delicious or Tofutti the best??????

I'd say as far as ice cream, go with Soy Dream. But Tofutti fudgicals are yummy! I didn't like their icecream though. With soy dream, I tried the chocolate and didn't like it, but the butter pecan was very good. I've heard their other flavors are good as well, maybe it was just the chocolate that is blah?

speaking of peanut butter...is it a safe food to eat? i'm confused about that, and the whole nut thing. i know they're safe if they're finely chopped, but what about whole?

This is FUN! I can SOOOO help you out here!

Yeah, you BET you're lucky! I'm one of those who has to drive down to Timbucktoo to a good health food store.

Okay, I've done a lot of taste tests with hubby, so here are our faves:

NUMBER ONE (by far): Soy Dream Frozen Non-Dairy Dessert, MOCHA FUDGE ROCKS!

Number Two: Soy Dream Strawberry Swirl

Number Three: Soy Dream Vanilla

Gee, I just realized my faves are all Soy Dream! --

Number Four: Tofuti Cuties, Peanut Butter

Number Five: Tofuti Cuties, Vanilla

Number Six: Soy Dream Blueberry

Number Seven: Soy Dream Chocolate

Number Eight: Cookie Avalanche

Knock yourself out, Girlfriend! BUT beware -- they're still higher in fat than we are allowed, so one scoop is about all, and make sure to have the soluble fiber beforehand. Best to have a super low-fat meal, then the "ice cream".

Let us know which one(s) you choose and how you like it (them)!

Oooooh... SUGAAAAA!

It's fat. Fat, more than 25% in one meal, is a no-no. You have to calculate the percentage you're having. You can try the reduced-fat peanut butter (which I eat), but again, calculate the fat:

Total grams of fat x 9 = calories/fat
Divided by total calories = percentage of fat

Say, for example, Soy Dream vanilla has 7g. total fat per serving and 140 calories.

7 x 9 = 63
63 divided by 140 = 45% fat. WAY TOO HIGH (by itself)!

Now, take Jif reduced fat creamy peanut butter:

Total fat = 12g.
Calories = 190

12 x 9 = 108 divided by 190 = 57% fat! WOW! (BUT -- how much fat is the bread you're putting it on? That's gonna reduce the TOTAL PERCENTAGE of that meal.)

I hope that made sense .... I can SOOO ramble on!

I think the brand Bev was referring to is actually Soy DELICIOUS. Soy Dream makes soy milks.

My favorites are Soy Delicious Mint Marble Fudge (which comes in quarts in is slightly lower in fat) and their Cookie Avalanche (which comes in pints and is higher in fat because it's like the Ben & Jerry's of soy ice cream!).

When it comes to plain old vanilla soy ice cream, I actually prefer Tofutti's vanilla to Soy Delicious.

I also love vanilla Tofutti Cuties!

Enjoy your frozen treats!

No, Kree, I meant Soy Dream, not Soy Delicious. Soy Dream is also available in "ice cream." I have a carton of it in front of me. (Don't tell.) I've certainly eaten enough Mocha Fudge to know! Soy DREAM Frozen Non-Dairy Dessert. Mocha Fudge, Vanilla -- all those in my post.

And Mocha Fudge beats Soy Delicious cookie avalanche all to heck!

Hi Bev,
Been trying to get hold of you. Did you get my email? Can I buy this in the regular supermarket?
Thanks!
Pat
