I got my letter from the NHS today about my referral to see a GI, and they said the waiting list in 17 weeks.
That's a long time.
I have no meds at all, so I am a bit panicked about being that long, since the diet is not working for me on it's own. All I had was toast earlier and am sick, sick, sick.
Booooo long waiting lists. Boooo them all to... somewhere bad.

That sucks!

What kind of IBS do you have? Are you taking all the other non-script recommendations people have tossed out, to tide you over the best you can 'til the appt??? I'm thinking especially of things like Equalactin (which I love! why did i wait this long to try it!?). If you can't find it, it CAN be ordered through Drugstore.com...

I'm sorry I can't remember your exact symptoms. My brain is fried lately....

Oh, Steph, this is s**t. The NHS is a bit crappy sometimes (understatement!).

Are you taking Acacia? What dose are you on?

I was JUST gonna post a response to you and suggest Equalactin -- but Jen just beat me to the punch. (She's like that you know!)

Also, Heather used to take the same drug I take (Donnatal) for the severe cramps, but she says her peppermint caps work better as an anti-spasmodic. You might consider ordering the caps from her. Oh! And when she sends you the order, she includes an introductory box of Equalactin! So there ya go.

Hang in there; 17 weeks is a long time, but I've gone 17 weeks with no attacks at all (so far), so you might not even need any meds! Especially if you have the Equalactin and caps.

Bev

Hiya,
My symptoms have been changing a lot lately but I am IBS-D, and get C very rarely. I get a bad churning feeling all through my stomach that makes me feel really nauseous and then gets painful. Lately, I have been getting really bloated with lotsa gas <-- that's only been for about 4 days now. And I have a big anxiety problem lately, really scared of leaving the house and stuff.
Well, if Linz is right about the Equal..ersomething.. (which I'm sure she is!) then I guess I can't get that over here, unless I get it along with the peppermint casules from Heather. I won't order them right now as I am beyond broke and can't afford the shipping costs, but will once I get some money (somehow..).
These are the things I do have:
-Acadia Fiber (I only am taking 1 tsp a day right now b/c every time I have tried to up it, I get mega sick and slow it down again. I know I should increase again, though).
-Immodium (I try not to take it very often, but do if I really have to go out or something. When I take it, I usually get extra sick a couple days later, which is why I try not to)
-Something called Wind ease, or something. I couldn't find Gas-X here, and this bloated thing has made me barely able to move the past few days, I just got that today.
-Peppermint Altoids
-Every kind of herbal tea you can think of
-Chinese Herbal Pills (which I have been taking since Tuesday, and might be the reason for all the recent bloating and gas, even though they are supposed to treat bloating).
Some of the stuff I've had recommended were prescription drugs, and when I asked my doc about them over here, had never heard of 'em. I've been on 2 prescription anti-spasmodals over here but one didn't seem to do anything at all and I had a really bad reaction to the second one. My doctor hadn't even heard of the second one, I got it from Linz and so couldn't offer me anything else.. which is why I got the referral.
Oh, I am also trying to do yoga and I am doing Session 2 now of the Hypnotherapy Audio Program. And I follow Heather's diet.
It's times like this that I really feel like a fish out of water in this country, as I don't know where to go from here. And 'cause I WANT MY MOMMY!
Thanks for all your help, all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Boo hoo. I ordered the caps and didn't get any equalactin. Had to buy mine online. The caps didn't seem to help the first time but I'll try them again.

Hey Linz,
I don't know if this would help you, but amazon.com actually sells the Equalactin products, and I'm almost positive they ship to the UK since they have a UK affiliate. Here's the link if you want to check it out: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000052WUO/102-3977025-0523360?v=glance&n=3762091&s=hpc
Cheers!

You just made my day, girlfriend!! And that picture was just taken this past Christmas, so it's not like I put a 10 year old picture up!

Yeah, born in 1953, you do the math. My cousins all look younger than their age too, so it must run in the family. Maybe that's the tradeoff for having IBS run in the family!!

Anyway, thanks for the compliment!
